MATSU Food Bank The MatSu Food Bank leads the effort to eliminate hunger and build lasting food security in the MatSu Valley by providing reliable access to nutritious food.

The Food Pantry of Wasilla was founded in 1989 as a ministry of Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church in Wasilla to provide emergency food to people in our community. In 1992, we became a member of the Valley Christian Conference and organized under the guidance of a board of directors. On March 24, 1994 we became registered as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. In October 2005 the Food Pantry of Wasill

a expanded to include The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in its distribution. As a result, there are now food distributions we handle:

A community based donation program
The federal TEFAP program, a USDA program

In 2013, we became the Mat-Su Food Bank, the only valley-wide food bank feeding families and children, and we are now able to also help supply smaller pantries. Additionally we are home for the Mat-Su Food4Kids program. The Mat-Su Food4Kids program has been feeding hungry children right here in the MatSu since 2010. Our goal is to make sure no child goes hungry!

It’s that time of year!!!! Our biggest food fundraiser! 🎟️🎡🎠

Your very own MATSU Food Bank will be present at the Alaska State Fair for 3 days:

- tomorrow, Thursday, 8/27. This is a very BIG day for us as you pay a very reduced ticket price if you donate 2 cans of food, baby food or hygiene products. We also accept dry items such as pasta or crackers. And we accept cash donations for those who are able.

- Friday, 8/28. We will also be accepting the same donations, but ticket prices are not reduced.

- Saturday, 8/29. Same info as Friday 😊

Please note that we will be stationed outside the PURPLE 💜, YELLOW 💛 & RED ❤️ GATES, so you can’t miss us! You can also leave donations at the GREEN 💚 GATE, which we will collect at the end of each day.

We’re really excited to welcome our community & our great state dwellers & tourists to the best dang State Fair in these here United States!

Well, these may not be the exact brands, but the Mat-Su Miners Baseball team donated a cargo of #10 cans (very large ones) to our clients & partner agencies yesterday!

173lbs, these will surely go out to bigger families & our partners who actually cook.

Had a visit from the Super Kool Executive Director of the Matanuska Community Farmers Market today, Brandi-Jo. She brought by produce donated by all of the markets farmers, and I had to tag it as "Super Fresh!"

Here is something everyone should know:

🌱 Matanuska Community Farmers Market
📅 Every Wednesday, 4–7 PM
📍 713 S. Denali Street in downtown Palmer

If you receive SNAP benefits, bring your EBT card! The market will match your SNAP dollars up to $40—spend $40 and you can have $80 in buying power at the market. And for 2026, they're offering an additional $15 benefit to SNAP customers who spend at least $1 on their EBT card. That's a pretty incredible way to stretch a family's food budget while supporting Alaska farmers.

Brandi Jo, thank you for helping us prove that "food bank produce" can mean some of the freshest, best-looking produce in the Valley.

Neighbors helping neighbors. Farmers feeding families. That's how you build food security in the Mat-Su Valley. ❤️

It wouldn’t have been a proper Thursday if James from Kellogg Campus at APU didn’t bring by fabulous gifts thanks to the Alaska Tilth!

We didn’t want to interrupt the deep conversation James was having with Sir Romanesco so we just snapped away!

Apologies for the notes on the bins - they just let us & our clients know who has donated what & what perfect produce & products they have.

Our clients were the very lucky recipients of home grown, local mushrooms, kale, zucchini, carrots, microgreens, salad mix, kohlrabi, cucumbers, squash, coffee, quail eggs, romanesco, chives, spinach, lettuce, chickens, cod & Napa cabbage!
