CHRISTMAS WISHLIST FOR ISOLATED SENIORS IS NOW OPEN 🎄

Christmas can feel especially quiet when you know you’ll be spending it alone.

Today, registration opens for the 2026 Christmas Wishlist for Isolated Seniors created for eligible Mat-Su seniors who are isolated and will not have family or others visiting them this Christmas.

Each participating senior creates a personal Christmas wishlist. A community sponsor shops from that list, and at Christmas, our Heroes help deliver more than gifts…they bring a moment of connection, dignity, and belonging.

Senior applications are open October 12–November 30.

Do you know the history behind the Christmas Friendship Dinner?

It all started in 1991 with two men and 6 turkeys. That year 67 guests were served. By 1997 we were up to 500 guests. 2007 1200 guests were served. This year will be the CFDs 35th year. We will likely serve 4,000+ Mat-Su Valley residents Christmas dinner.

The need for this service is great in our small community. Which is why we are partnering with the Alaska Museum of Transportation for their Nightmare at the Museum Fundraiser. We need your help to make it a success!

Preparations for the fundraiser, Nightmare at the Museum, begin this Wednesday, September 9th, from 5 PM - 8 PM. We will start the evening off by doing some cleanup and organizing.

Decorating and event preparations will continue every Wednesday and Saturday in September. See the dates and times listed below.

September 12th, Saturday 10 AM- 12 PM CFD Meeting; 12 PM- 3 PM Decorating
September 16th, Wednesday 5 PM-8 PM Decorating
September 19th, Saturday 10 AM-3 PM Decorating
September 23rd, Wednesday 5 PM-8 PM Volunteer Meeting/Decorating
September 24th, Thursday 6 PM-7 PM Volunteer Meeting
September 26th, Saturday 10 AM-3 PM Volunteer Meeting/Decorating
September 30th, Wednesday 5 PM-8 PM Volunteer Meeting/Final Touches

In addition to needing help with the setup/decorating, the event itself will require many hands to make it a success! The Scare Train, the Haunted House, the Hay Rides, the Paintball Zombies are all positions that need to be filled.

The Nightmare at the Museum will run every Friday and Saturday in October from 6 PM-9 PM (at the Museum of Alaska in Wasilla)

November 1st, Sunday, 1 PM- 5 PM Tear Down/Clean Up Museum.

2025 Christmas Wishlist is a wrap.

Weeks ago, nearly 100 community sponsors received individual wishlists — each one carrying specific items a senior hoped for, whether something practical or something that would simply bring joy. Sponsors shopped with care, filling large bags with thoughtfully chosen gifts.

Those gifts came together at our wrapping party, where community gathered — laughing, wrapping, and making sure every present was ready for Christmas morning.

That morning began early, with crews sharing coffee and breakfast before heading out.

By the end of the day, nearly 50 public servants and their families had stepped into living rooms, hospital halls, and quiet moments to deliver gifts to 140+ seniors. Many seniors invited their heroes in to visit while gifts were opened. When one senior was unexpectedly in the hospital, a team simply brought Christmas there instead.

This was the journey — from a wish, to a gift, to a moment of connection.
What a good day.
Merry Christmas, and wishing you a peaceful rest of the holidays.

🌬️ High Wind Warning This Weekend 🌬️ Lower Mat-Su Valley (Big Lake, Wasilla, Palmer)

Here we go again… (I don't think there's even an appropriate emoji for this).

After three weekends in a row, we think it might be time for all of us to officially break up with Windy Wendy. She’s coming back Saturday evening with 30–40 mph winds and gusts up to 60–70 mph — and honestly, she's overextended her stay.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning from 6 PM Saturday to Noon Sunday. Strong winds may move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages.

👉 If you experience a power outage, please report it one of these ways:
• SmartHub: https://mea.smarthub.coop/Login.html

• Outage Line: 907-746-POWR (7697)

Reporting your outage helps us ensure we have accurate, real-time information — especially during widespread events.

📌 Safety Tips:
• Secure loose outdoor items.
• Charge devices in advance.
• Use caution if you must drive, as winds will be strongest Saturday night into early Sunday.

Our crews will be ready to respond. Thank you, stay safe, and let's hope this is it for 2025!
