35 years of VetFran — and a legacy of opening doors through franchise ownership.

Last week at IFA26 Advocacy Summit, we celebrated the 35th anniversary of VetFran and the power of franchise ownership to create opportunity.

The evening brought the franchise community together to recognize our Franchisees of the Year, honor outstanding veterans whose service and leadership continue to strengthen the franchise community, and reaffirm our shared commitment to the IFA Foundation’s mission of opening doors of opportunity for the next generation of franchise owners.

The mission continues.

Twenty-five years after September 11, we continue to honor the veterans who carry their commitment to service into their communities, careers, and businesses.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation changed forever.

On September 11, 2001, we witnessed unimaginable loss—but also extraordinary courage, unity and service.

Today, VetFran remembers the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honors the first responders who ran toward danger, and recognizes the service members who answered our nation’s call in the years that followed.

Many stepped forward because they felt called to serve something bigger than themselves. Twenty-five years later, many of those Veterans continue their commitment to service as business owners, franchisees, employers, mentors and leaders in their communities.

Their uniforms may be put away, but their commitment to service has never left them.

We will never forget. ❤️🤍💙

Where were you on September 11, 2001? For Wendy Kunz, the answer is Baltimore, where she was attending Sylvan Learning’s annual conference while her husband, Matt, and their one-year-old son were scheduled to fly home that morning.

As news of the attacks spread, conference sessions ended, flights were grounded, and hundreds gathered in the hotel lobby. Amid the uncertainty, Wendy remembers scanning the crowd and spotting her little blonde-haired son sitting safely on his dad’s shoulders.

Twenty-five years later, she still carries that memory with her. It also gives even greater meaning to the work she does today with veterans, many of whom answered the call to serve because of that day.

From Service to Entrepreneurship

When September 11, 2001, changed our nation forever, Jenifer Breaux was serving as an U.S. Army Reservist. In the days that followed, her unit was activated, reaffirming a calling that would ultimately lead to 29 years of military service and her retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Today, Jenifer continues serving others in a new way as a Dream Vacations franchise owner.

As she reflects 25 years later, her story is a reminder that while the uniform may change, the commitment to service can continue into a new mission.
