When we visited Tyson Foods office in Washington DC with a petition signed by 18,000+ people, they refused to take it. They refused to meet. They refused to take responsibility.
Child labor in slaughterhouses is shocking, and it’s something we have the power to stop. From 2015 to 2022, the number of minors employed in violation of child labor laws rose by 283%.
And children working on cleaning crews in slaughterhouses are performing hazardous work – surrounded by dangerous machinery that can easily rip off a person’s arm. Only adult workers are permitted to work in meatpacking plants – the work is far too dangerous for minors.
This is exactly the type of work children should NEVER be exposed to – but, the largest (and most profitable!) meatpackers. All have documented cases of child labor in their operations in recent years.
More pressure is needed. Join us in demanding JBS, Perdue Chicken, Tyson Foods, and Cargill stop child labor.
