We are less than ONE week away from the CIC Gala, where we’ll honor Alvaro de Vicente, Headmaster of The Heights School, with the John Paul II New Evangelization Award.

In his Substack article "Forming Men of Faith", Alvaro offers a beautiful image for how we should live our faith: “Let your faith be more like the wind than a banner.”

We may not see the wind itself, but we can see and feel its effects. In the same way, a life rooted in faith speaks through the way we live, the people we love, and the example we set for others.

The Diocese of Arlington has announced the opening of the Cause for the Beatification and Canonization of Thomas Stephen Vander Woude, a husband and father whose final act of selfless love has touched many. In 2008, Tom sacrificed his life while saving his son, Joseph, who had fallen into a septic tank.

This November, the Catholic Information Center is honored to welcome Tom’s son, Chris Vander Woude, to share his father’s story and the lasting impact of his sacrifice. Mark your calendars now!

With just 10 days until the CIC Gala, we look forward to honoring Alvaro de Vicente - Headmaster of The Heights School - with the John Paul II New Evangelization Award on October 22nd!

In his writing on education, Alvaro offers a thoughtful perspective on what it means to form young men who can think for themselves, exercise good judgment, and take responsibility for their lives.

Calling all DC-area families! 🎃📚 Join us Saturday, October 31 for a family-friendly book party with best-selling author Matthew Mehan, celebrating his new book, "The American Book of Fables."

Mr. Mehan will kick off the morning with a reading and lesson, displaying John Folley's beautiful watercolor paintings that bring the tales to life. Then stay for the CIC's Family Day Book Party with crafts, food, and fun! Parents can also pick up a copy of the book and get it signed by the author.

Children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes, dress as their favorite saint, or come in an Americana style costume!

Join us Wednesday, October 14 with attorney and author William Haun for the launch of his new book, "Not to Caesar but to Peter: Remembering Why the Catholic Church Is a Perfect Society”.

Drawing on the Catholic Church’s self-understanding as a complete, self-sufficient (in the Aristotelian sense, “perfect”) society, the book explains how the Catholic Church’s claimed legal authority provides a stable basis for religious liberty in civil law.

At the recent CIC event for her new book, "No Contact", Noelle Mering unpacked the Barnum Effect, the rise of the “TikTok psychologist,” and how easily language meant to help us understand ourselves can become a way of mislabeling ourselves and others when used carelessly.

In "No Contact", Mering explores the cultural forces reshaping how we understand family, relationships, identity, and responsibility, drawing on interviews and historical research to ask what we lose when we cut ourselves off from one another. Be sure to add it to your reading list this Fall! 📚

Join us Thursday, October 8 with attorney and law professor Peter Martino for a presentation of his book, "Resurrection on Trial: A Judicial Inquiry into the Christian Claim of the Resurrection of Jesus."

"Resurrection on Trial" examines the Resurrection through a distinctive legal framework: it treats the historical evidence as an appellate record and asks what would happen if the case for the Resurrection came before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Last Wednesday marked the final spectacular event of our summer rooftop series, featuring author Noelle Mering! 🌇

Her new book, "No Contact: How a Seductive Ideology Broke Families and Friendships and How We Can Repair Them," draws on interviews and historical research to identify five forces driving the rise of the no-contact movement: identity politics, the demythologization of the family, therapeutic culture, the idea that victims can do no wrong, and a mix of cultural narcissism and spiritual decline. By naming these forces and showing how they play out in our personal lives, families, and communities, Mering helps readers understand what's happening — and gives them the tools to confront it and rebuild stronger, healthier relationships.

The book is now available at the CIC bookstore!
