And when we think of people, it is not enough to talk about economic growth, trade, or sovereignty. We need to think about inequality and justice and rights and care.

Gunjan also urged us not to continue to make people, countries, and civil society organizations compete for resources.

"Imagine what would happen if you told the organs in the body that they had to compete for oxygen and food. No matter which organ won, the body would collapse. The old system was based on the idea of scarcity. It made us compete for everything. What if we built the new system on the idea of abundance, on connection, not competition?"

Young people are not waiting for permission to lead. They are building their own seat at the table.

In the interview for MCLD's Voices of the Decade series, Akuzike Phiri, climate activist, youth advocate, and member of MCLDโ€™s Youth Task Force, shares her journey from community environmental action in Malawi to global climate conversations at . She reminds us that youth leadership already exists; whatโ€™s often missing is access, inclusion, and opportunity. MCLD's Youth Task Force is working to change that.

MCLDโ€™s Youth Task Force creates connection, solidarity, and opportunity for young leaders across regions to learn from one another and shape development together.

๐Ÿš€ Launching MCLDโ€™s 2026-2029 Strategic Plan!

The future is community-led! This new strategy reflects where we are as a network and our roadmap for the future we seek.

Our new 2026-2029 strategic plan deepens our impact through four pillars: policy, practice, solidarity, and self-reliance. Explore the plan and join us as we make our collective vision a reality.

At MCLD, we believe we have the power to transform the worldโ€”to ensure peace and prosperity for all people and the planetโ€”if we stand together in radical solidarity. Our strategic plan is not just โ€ฆ

The world is changing faster than our development systems. Yet one truth is becoming clearer every year: Communities already know what works.

The challenge has never been ideas.
It has been power, resources, and recognition.

In a new article, MCLDโ€™s regional coordinators reflect on what lies ahead for community-led development and our network, and why the next phase of global development must be grounded in local leadership.

If we want solutions that are sustainable, inclusive, and resilient, the path forward is clear ๐Ÿ‘‰ Development must be community-led. Across countries and contexts, local organizations are proving that when communities lead, development works better.
