The Latinx History Project documents and preserves our community's history, and educates the public on the rich identities and societal contributions of the Latinx LGBTQ community to promote tolerance and acceptance. Twenty years ago the Latinx History Project, formerly known as the Latino GLBT History Project, was founded to collect, preserve and share Latinx LQBTQ history. Since its inception, it has served as a force that builds community, spreads compassion and fights for equity within and for the Latinx LGBTQ community of Washington D.C. Today, the Latinx History Project celebrates twenty years of meaningful service to the community, and a major milestone as it launches new programs and the formation of a broader coalition of service to the Latinx LGBTQ community spanning the continental United States and various Latin American countries.

- Meet George, one of our 2026 Latinx-Hispanic LGBTQ+ Heritage Award honorees!

For more than 15 years, George Garcia has worked to advance equity, civic engagement, and stronger communities through public service.

Today, he serves as Deputy Director of Finance and Operations for , helping direct resources toward violence prevention, workforce access, community development, and more.

His commitment to LGBTQ+ Washington runs deep, too. As the former Director of Operations for the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs (), George helped support 10 community coalitions and the volunteer mobilization for WorldPride 2025.

From LGBTQ+ advocacy to youth development and public service, George has built a career around bringing people together and helping our communities thrive.

Here's someone who puts community first. Always!🧡

Meet Salvador Sauceda-Guzmán (he/they), one of our 2026 Latinx-Hispanic LGBTQ+ Heritage Award honorees!

Salvador Sauceda Guzman is a Mexican-American community advocate and public servant who has dedicated his work to uplifting DC residents and connecting communities with the resources they need.

He currently serves as a Community Outreach Specialist with the DC Office of the Attorney General, helping bridge the gap between community needs and civic resources.

Salvador also served three terms as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, including four years as ANC Chair.

Throughout his leadership, he's championed gun violence prevention, mentored young people, and worked to make sure his neighbors' voices are heard.

Rooted in his faith, family, and Mexican heritage, Salvador reminds us that public service isn't about titles. It's about showing up, being accountable, and lifting others along the way.

Meet Yadiel Meléndez (they/them/elle), also known as drag performer Ricky Rosé, one of our 2026 Latinx-Hispanic LGBTQ+ Heritage Award honorees!

Long before the glitter beards and fabulous performances, Yadiel was already showing up for their community through advocacy and grassroots organizing.

From supporting su***de prevention efforts to leading conversations about anti-Blackness and equity in drag, Yadiel has used their voice to advocate for communities too often left behind.

They've also helped bring free harm reduction resources into DC drag spaces and used their platform to speak out at marches, rallies, and protests.

As the first Mx. DC Latinx Pride in 2018, Yadiel has continued to show us that drag is more than entertainment. It's also a powerful way to build community and fight for change.

Their work reminds us that everyone has a voice and the power to use it!

If you hadn't seen yet, our DC Latinx Pride 2026 Closing event has been canceled.

We know many of you were looking forward to one last chance to be in community, and we're grateful for your interest and support throughout Pride season.

Our hope is to bring this event back later this year for a different occasion, and we'll share updates if plans come together.

To everyone who celebrated Pride with us, thank you for making this season so special. We can't wait to build even more community with you next year.

In just a few hours, the DC Latinx Pride Coalition will take to the streets for the Capital Pride Parade, and we can't wait to celebrate with all of you.

If you're marching with us, please make sure you arrive by 2:30 PM and head directly to Zone 3 (RED) on T St. NW between 14th St. and 15th St. NW. Check the map in the second slide for details.

Drag isn't something you learn alone. 💋

Every performer has that one person who taught them a trick, shared a resource, or encouraged them to take a chance on themselves. This workshop brings together four local artists ready to do the same for the next generation.

Meet the lineup behind tonight’s So You Wanna Do Drag?

✨ Ricky Rosé will share makeup tips and techniques that help bring a drag character to life.

👗 will talk costuming, aesthetics, and how to create a look that tells a story.

💇 will break down the basics of wigs, styling, and finding a look that feels like you.

🎵 Lady J Monroe (Julio Acevedo) will explore song selection and how performers choose music that matches their personality and performance style.

Whether you're thinking about trying drag yourself or simply want to learn more about the art form, this is a rare chance to hear directly from artists who have built their own paths.
