The Latinx History Project documents and preserves our community's history, and educates the public on the rich identities and societal contributions of the Latinx LGBTQ community to promote tolerance and acceptance. Twenty years ago the Latinx History Project, formerly known as the Latino GLBT History Project, was founded to collect, preserve and share Latinx LQBTQ history. Since its inception, i

t has served as a force that builds community, spreads compassion and fights for equity within and for the Latinx LGBTQ community of Washington D.C. Today, the Latinx History Project celebrates twenty years of meaningful service to the community, and a major milestone as it launches new programs and the formation of a broader coalition of service to the Latinx LGBTQ community spanning the continental United States and various Latin American countries.

Every performer has that one person who taught them a trick, shared a resource, or encouraged them to take a chance on themselves. This workshop brings together four local artists ready to do the same for the next generation.

Meet the lineup behind tonight’s So You Wanna Do Drag?

✨ Ricky Rosé will share makeup tips and techniques that help bring a drag character to life.

👗 will talk costuming, aesthetics, and how to create a look that tells a story.

💇 will break down the basics of wigs, styling, and finding a look that feels like you.

🎵 Lady J Monroe (Julio Acevedo) will explore song selection and how performers choose music that matches their personality and performance style.

Welcome Silvestre Niaupari (they/he) as Mx. DC Latinx Pride 2026! 👑

Silvestre believes that care is something we give AND build together.

An Ecuadorian transmasculine nonbinary researcher, writer, and community organizer, Silvestre has dedicated their life to documenting our histories, strengthening our communities, and creating systems of care that help people thrive.

Many know Silvestre as the founder of Plantita Power, a community initiative that supports food justice, mutual aid, and sustainability across the United States and Puerto Rico. Others know them through their work advancing LGBTQIA+ rights, community health, and trans visibility across Latin America and around the world.

From researching the experiences of trans and nonbinary people in Ecuador to preserving transmasculine histories through the Lo Que Nos Sostiene archive, Silvestre's work reminds us that our stories matter and that collective care is a powerful form of resistance.

Through organizing and community-building, they continue to connect people across borders in pursuit of dignity, safety, joy, and belonging for all.

Welcome AdrianGaston Garcia (he/him) as Mr. DC Latinx Pride 2026! 👑

Adrian has worked tirelessly to build community through stories.

A poet, performer, cultural organizer, and proud q***r Latine storyteller, Adrian has spent years creating spaces where our communities can see themselves, heal, and dream bigger. His work centers the beauty, complexity, and resilience of q***r brown lives.

Many in our community know Adrian through projects like Jotería: Our Untold Stories, Noche de Jotería, Oye DC, Los Bookis Podcast, and Tintas DC, all of which have helped amplify q***r Latine voices across the DMV and beyond.

Whether on stage, behind a microphone, or organizing alongside workers and artists, Adrian believes storytelling can be a powerful tool for connection, solidarity, and collective action.

His work is a love letter to q***r brown people, a celebration of softness and survival, and a reminder that joy itself can be an act of resistance.

For Lady J, aka Julio Acevedo, drag has always been a celebration of culture, a tool for advocacy, and a way to bring people together.

Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, and raised in the United States as a DACA recipient, Lady J has spent years using her platform to support LGBTQ+, immigrant, and Latinx communities. From benefit shows and Drag Queen Story Hours to community organizing and nonprofit leadership, she has consistently shown up for our community both on and off the stage.

Known for her vibrant performances of Latinx music and artists, Lady J brings the beauty, diversity, and joy of Latin American culture wherever she goes.

A former board member of the Latinx History Project and LULAC Lambda, and recipient of the 2022 Committed Activist/Artist Award from Trans Latinx DMV, Lady J reminds us that drag can be a powerful force for visibility, connection, and change.

Welcome Vida Rangel (she/her) as Ms. DC Latinx Pride 2026! 👑

Some people build community by showing up. Vida builds community by opening doors for others to walk through.

As the founder of Our Trans Capital, Vida has dedicated herself to making sure trans people are seen in government AND have opportunities to lead in it. Her work spans housing justice, voting rights, worker protections, education access, and LGBTQ+ equality.

She currently serves as Deputy Director of the DC Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments, making history as the highest-ranking trans woman to serve in District government.

From protecting voters during the 2020 election to supporting future generations of trans public servants, Vida's leadership reminds us that representation matters when it creates real change in people's lives.
