Federal and state law shapes whether a form is accessible. Whether a doctor's office is welcoming. Whether care is even possible.

From AHLA’s Business Law and Governance Practice Group: Counsel advising acquirers in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device transactions must assess a target’s compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements in granular detail as a fundamental determinant of enterprise value, deal structure, and post-closing liability exposure. Hidden liabilities may erode transaction value, give rise to indemnification claims, or, in the most serious cases, prevent the lawful marketing of a core commercial asset altogether.

Have you ever met an in-house legal team that feels appropriately staffed and resourced? Neither have we.

While legal teams used to be viewed as high-access service centers, today’s economic climate demands a shift toward operational efficiency and rigorous cost management. For health care organizations—where complex regulations meet explosive growth—simply working harder is not a viable strategy.

On Thursday, join Wendy Chow, General Counsel at Cityblock Health, and Kathy Zhu, Co-Founder & CEO at Streamline AI, as they move beyond the AI hype to share a practical, three-tiered roadmap for transforming how legal operates. This webinar explores ways that in-house lawyers can evolve their service model using currently available AI tools to reduce outside counsel spend and optimize their team’s time.

From AHLA’s Hospitals and Health Systems Practice Group: The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) has issued a handful of advisory opinions so far in 2026—most have been favorable, but hospitals should take note of an unfavorable opinion (AO 25-12) posted in early January. Rather than surveying every opinion issued this year, this article zeroes in on the ones most relevant to hospital and health system counsel: those that introduce new analytical frameworks, touch common hospital arrangements, or flag enforcement priorities worth acting on. In opinion after opinion, HHS-OIG concluded that the arrangements at issue generated no remuneration at all under the Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), rather than finding remuneration that posed sufficiently “low risk.” That threshold distinction has significant structural implications for how hospital counsel should design and evaluate compliance programs.
