This is why we do what we do.

It's all for moments like this. The next generation of hunters and anglers is out there right now, rod in hand, boots in the mud, falling in love with the wild.

U.S. Forest Service & Boone and Crockett Club Sign Landmark Public Lands MOU

The agreement underscores the importance of sustaining outdoor recreation with a focus on public access for hunting, angling, wildlife conservation, habitat stewardship, and conservation education. TRCP is proud to be one of 15 collaborating partners working with B&C to identify and develop opportunities to enhance recreational access on public lands.

"Hunters and anglers commonly cite a lack of available access as the number one reason they hang it up and pursue other hobbies - a trend we hope to reverse," said Joel Webster, TRCP's chief conservation officer. "TRCP applauds the U.S. Forest Service and Boone and Crockett Club in completing an MOU that will enable cooperation and coordination to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities on America's 193 million acres of National Forest System lands."

TRCP applauds Reps. Rep Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (D-MD) for introducing the bipartisan Aquatic Invasive Species Control and Prevention Act last week. The act would modernize federal aquatic invasive species (AIS) policy and strengthen efforts to better prevent, control and eradicate AIS like Asian carp and zebra mussels, and has strong support from TRCP, Keep America Fishing, American Fisheries Society, Bass Nation, Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, and a dozen other organizations representing recreational angling, boating, and the industries they support. If ultimately passed, the bill would help ensure healthier fisheries and better fishing opportunities.

TRCP has been working for years to address AIS concerns. Learn more:

Recommendations focus on modernizing marine fisheries laws, making strategic investments, and improving collaboration among federal, state, local, and tribal agencies.

Governor Polis Signs Wildlife Collision Prevention Act

Today, Colorado’s Wildlife Collision Prevention Act was signed into law by Governor Jared Polis . This new law is expected to generate up to $4 million per year to fund wildlife crossing infrastructure and conservation projects through voluntary $5 add-ons to vehicle registrations. These infrastructure projects are proven to enhance public safety and conserve wildlife movement routes in known wildlife-vehicle collision hot spots. Colorado motorists, wildlife, and communities all benefit from making our highways safer. The TRCP thanks the Governor and bill sponsors for their leadership, and encourages members to contribute if they can in 2027 and beyond.

“The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership applauds Colorado legislators and the Governor for finding a new way to fund needed highway infrastructure to prevent wildlife-vehicle collisions,” said Liz Rose, Colorado program manager for TRCP. “Coloradans will have the choice to contribute to the construction of wildlife crossing overpasses, underpasses, and other projects that make our highways significantly safer for motorists and wildlife alike. We are grateful to Senator State Senator Dylan Roberts, Cleave Simpson Colorado State Senator District 6, Speaker Representative Julie McCluskie, and Representative Rick Taggart for their leadership on this sensible Colorado solution to a real Colorado problem.”

Industrial fishing for Atlantic menhaden, and its consequences to fisheries, local businesses, and communities, are nothing new. When overharvest of this critically important forage fish occurs, as happened repeatedly off Long Island, NY, in previous decades – and based on recent menhaden stock assessments, is happening coastwide right now – ecosystems, sportfish populations, and economies all suffer. Hear from Capt. Paul Dixon, renowned charter guide, conservationist, supporter of Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and a Bonefish & Tarpon Trust Advisory Council member, on the importance of menhaden conservation:

“It’s more important than ever that we really start considering some of these conservation efforts toward menhaden.”

Department of the Interior Expands Hunting and Fishing Opportunities Across the National Wildlife Refuge System

Today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposed opening or expanding more than 1,450 hunting and fishing opportunities across 32 states at 107 national wildlife refuges and four national fish hatcheries.

“TRCP joins America’s hunters and anglers in thanking the Department of the Interior for proposing the expansion of hunting and fishing opportunities across the National Wildlife Refuge System,” said Joel Webster, chief conservation officer with the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership. “With over 92 million acres slated to be open to hunting and direction to simplify and align refuge regulations with those of respective states, this announcement is big news for hunting and fishing opportunities on our public lands.”
