🎒Today is the day!🧡

After weeks of preparation, our 2026 Backpack Drive has officially reached its final—and most exciting—step: distribution day!

Over the past few days, incredible volunteers came together to pack 200+ backpacks with essential school supplies and handwritten notes of encouragement for students in our community.

Today, more than 200 families will come to YWCA National Capital Area to pick up their children’s new backpacks and school supplies—and we can’t wait to see their smiles! 🎒

Every backpack represents more than school supplies. It represents a community that believes in our children and wants them to start the school year feeling prepared, supported, and confident.

To every volunteer, donor, and partner who helped make this possible: THANK YOU!Your generosity and dedication are making a meaningful difference for children and families in our community.

Over the past few weeks, YWCA National Capital Area has been proud to partner with the Consulates of Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, and Honduras to help families prepare for the unexpected through our Family Emergency Plan workshops.

Together, we’ve provided parents and caregivers with the tools and resources they need to create emergency plans, understand standby guardianship documents, and protect their children during times of uncertainty.

Thank you to our consular partners for opening your doors and helping us reach so many families in our community. Together, we’re building stronger, more prepared, and more resilient communities.

Last Saturday, we visited the Consulate of Guatemala once again to connect with the Guatemalan community and help families create their Family Emergency Plans and complete Temporary Guardianship Designations 🧡

Every conversation was an opportunity to provide trusted information, answer questions, and help families take meaningful steps to protect their loved ones during unexpected emergencies.
