We are proud to announce our new partnership with the Consulate of Colombia 🇨🇴

Beginning this month, YWCA NCA will be on-site at the Consulate of Colombia every two weeks to support members of the Colombian community with Family Emergency Plans, including guidance on custodial power of attorney, preparedness resources, and access to additional services and programs available through YWCA NCA.

This partnership reflects our continued commitment to providing culturally responsive support, education, and resources to Latino families across our community. We are deeply grateful to Consul Ana María Bermúdez Ríos and her staff for opening their doors and for their shared dedication to empowering and protecting Colombian families in our region.

Today was powerful💗

This morning, 10 incredible women from our community took a step that could save their lives. Together, we traveled from YWCA NCA to the hospital with our partner, .georgetown for Cancer Prevention, to receive FREE mammograms—and for many of them, it was their very first one.

We stood side by side helping fill out paperwork, translating, guiding, and simply being there—because for many, language and access are real barriers. But today, we broke those barriers together.

There were smiles, nerves, gratitude… and moments that reminded us exactly why this work matters. Seeing their strength and courage, especially knowing this was a first-time experience for some, was deeply emotional and inspiring.

This is what true community partnership looks like. When organizations come together with purpose, we don’t just provide services—we create access, dignity, and opportunity for women to take control of their health.

We are deeply grateful to the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention and all the volunteers who made this possible. And we are just getting started.

The need is real. And we will continue building, showing up, and creating more opportunities like this—because every woman deserves access to life-saving care.

In the spring and summer of 1988, Gloria Chun Hoo was a key player in the YWCA USA new logo design. It was the era of YWCA celebrating new beginnings with the implementation of the sunrise logo that ran from 1989 to 2004. It was a defining moment that created persimmon as our signature color. Thank you Gloria Chun Hoo for shaping YWCA.

We were proud to partner with the Consulate of Mexico during their Mobile Consulate in New Carrollton, Maryland, where our team spent two days connecting with community members.

We shared the importance of having a Family Emergency Plan, including a custodial power of attorney to ensure children are cared for by a trusted adult in case of an emergency.

Because this work is about more than documents—it’s about peace of mind, protection, and keeping families together 🧡
