Celebrating Community, Entrepreneurship & a Continuing Partnership!
The Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities Council was proud to join Citizens Bank for the grand opening of its new state-of-the-art Centerville Plaza branch in Warwick!
Our congratulations come with an extra reason to celebrate: Citizens continues its support of RIDDC’s Self-Employment Program with a $2,500 contribution, building on last year’s Champions in Action Award and the hands-on assistance provided by the Citizens Community Outreach team.
We were also excited to showcase two RIDDC entrepreneurs - Rebecca Beaton of Rebecca’s G Cards and Carol Bruins of Bee Friendly Flowers - who joined the celebration and shared their businesses with guests, thanks to the usual help provided by Deb Duke.
Thank you to Citizens Bank for opening its doors to RIDDC, supporting entrepreneurs with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and helping build a more inclusive small-business community.

Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities Council
Notice of Public Comment Period

The Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities Council is currently updating its five-year plan for submission to the federal government. The broad Goals and Objectives were approved by the Council’s Executive Committee and the Full Council to go out to the public to gather public comments.

These are the very broad Goals and Objectives that will be utilized to guide the Council’s activities over the next five years. More specific activities will be incorporated to build out the plan and the Council will include impact, outcomes, and data in the final plan as well.

If you have any comments r suggestions to the attached Goals and Objectives or if you have recommendations on activities for the Council there are three ways to send those comments in:

In person on July 21 at the Council office (400 Bald Hill Road, Warwick RI) from 1:00PM to 2:00PM and from 6:00PM to 7:00PM

At the recent “Inclusion Seekers” 2-day event hosted by Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities Council something compelling emerged, not from a keynote speech or a formal presentation, but from the voices of people gathered in conversation.

The meeting brought together individuals with disabilities, their families, and the agencies that support them. Guided by facilitators Ken Renaud from IN2U, and Starfire’s Tim Vogt, participants rotated through small-group discussions every 20 minutes, exploring topics that shape everyday life: employment, housing, relationships, and life after high school.
