The Rhode Island Experiential Learning Navigator (RIEXL) connects Rhode Island educators to local businesses willing to offer career-based educational enrichment. On Wednesday, October 27th, RIEXL connected 25 students from Excel Academy High School to mentors at Textron in downtown Providence.

The mentorship offered was specific and actionable- practice job interviews and direct feedback from professionals. For so many young people, a first interview can be daunting. These practice interviews allow students to acclimate the experience without the pressure of actual rejection. Thank you, Textron, for partnering with RIEXL!

At JA Inspire, students don't just learn about careers; they meet the people behind them.

In this interview, an employee at Dimeo Construction shares how apprenticeship programs provide a unique opportunity to earn while you learn through paid, hands-on training. She also reflects on her experience as a woman in the male-dominated field of construction and the welcoming, supportive environment she's found at Dimeo.

For the 8th graders who will attend JA Inspire, hearing authentic stories like this can help them discover new possibilities, see themselves in careers they may not have considered, and understand that there are many paths to a rewarding future.
