The Hero Package Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Rhode Island police officer, Jennifer Fonseca.

Emerson is now cancer free, but the battle against childhood cancer continues. The goal of The Hero Package Foundation is to not only bring awareness, but to bring hope and happiness to the real heroes battling something greater than all of us. The mission is carried out by sending "hero" care packages to children battling cancer. Each Hero Package is sponsored by a participating law enforcement agency, military rank, business, family, and/or donors, and contains memorabilia, a sponsor photograph, Hero Package Foundation t-shirt, and a collection of items tailored to the child’s individual wants and needs. We look forward to your kind support and participation in our journey.

When I heard that my local little hero would be turning 9 years old today and spending her special day in the hospital, I knew I had to call on all my First Responder friends to help make her day a little brighter.🚓🚒🏥🚑

Thank you to all the Police and Fire Departments, as well as the medical staff, who participated and helped make Mia’s birthday special. No one in this THPF family will ever fight alone.🎗️

Today, I am excited to share a very special Hero Package #250! This special package is for Super Hero Millie and her Super (Twin) Sibling Maverick. 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♀️

Super Hero Millie is three years old and is courageously battling B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL), a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow that causes the body to make too many immature white blood cells called B-lymphoblasts. B-ALL is the most common type of pediatric cancer in the United States, representing approximately 75%–80% of all childhood leukemia cases.

Millie was first diagnosed on January 22nd, 2026. Since her diagnosis, her treatment plan has included chemotherapy and immunotherapy. She has also undergone numerous blood transfusions and lumbar punctures. Millie is currently still in active treatment, undergoing a chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimen. Next up in her treatment plan is the Delayed Intensification phase of treatment.

Super Hero Millie, you have been through so much over the past 257 days—all with a courage that is larger than you. I am so incredibly proud of your continued strength and determination. I hope you never forget that I will always be here for you, and you will always be my hero.✨

Super Sibling Maverick—the love you have for your twin sister and the strength you’ve shown throughout her cancer journey are what make you a Super Hero. I hope you never forget how special you are and that you will always be my hero.💫

Today, I am excited to share a very special Halloween-themed Hero Package #249! This special package is for Super Hero George. 🦸‍♂️✨

George is seven years old and is courageously battling B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL), a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow that causes the body to make too many immature white blood cells called B-lymphoblasts. B-ALL is the most common type of pediatric cancer in the United States, representing approximately 75%–80% of all childhood leukemia cases.

George was first diagnosed on November 3rd, 2024, at the tender age of five. Since his diagnosis, he has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy, blood transfusions, procedures, surgeries, and periods of isolation. George also had a feeding tube placed after treatment caused significant GI issues, making eating difficult and uncomfortable for him.

George is currently in the continuation phase of treatment, which, if all goes well, will be the final phase of his current treatment plan. He is projected to complete treatment in early December 2026. Following the completion of treatment, George will continue to be monitored through the Jimmy Fund until he is 10 years old—monthly to start—to ensure the leukemia does not return and to monitor for any secondary cancers.

George, you have maintained an incredibly positive outlook through treatment, hair loss, nausea, isolation, and all of the side effects that have come along with this diagnosis. To say you are the true definition of a Super Hero would be an absolute understatement. Please know that I am so incredibly proud of you, and you will always be my hero.💫

For the past six years, I have been bringing Halloween to my local little heroes and their siblings. A very important and powerful gift to a child battling cancer and their siblings—the gift of “just being a kid” through Halloween magic. 🎃

Approximately 40,000 children and adolescents are being treated for cancer this year in the United States. That means thousands of children will miss out on Halloween due to weakened immune systems, treatment, hospital stays, surgeries, and quarantine.

My goal this Halloween remains the same: to bring as much Halloween magic as possible to my local little heroes and their siblings.✨

Hero Package #248 is for Super Hero Princess Madelyn! 🦸‍♀️👑

Super Hero Madelyn is three years old and is courageously battling B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL), a fast-growing blood and bone marrow cancer and the most common type of cancer in children in the United States.

Madelyn was first diagnosed on April 22nd of this year. Since her diagnosis, she has endured a two-and-a-half-week hospital admission for the induction phase of chemotherapy, which began with a few days in the PICU. After being discharged, Madelyn was able to spend three days at home before being rushed back to the ER due to a blood clot at her PICC line site. She then underwent surgery to have a port placed.

Since her diagnosis, Madelyn’s treatment has included frequent lumbar punctures with chemotherapy injected into her spinal fluid, chemotherapy injections, oral chemotherapy at home, blood and platelet transfusions, and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG).

Madelyn has successfully completed the consolidation phase of treatment and is now in the immunotherapy phase. I am SO excited to share that Madelyn’s bone marrow is now negative for disease!✨

Super Hero Princess Madelyn, at such a young age, you have already endured so much. Yet, through it all, you have remained so positive and brave. I can’t even begin to express how proud I am of you. I hope your special princess package reminds you of just how brave, beautiful, and loved you truly are. You will always be my hero, and I will always be here for you. 🎗️

What a special Hero Package drop-off day it was for Super Hero Elsie and her Super Sibling, Solomon! 📦✨

This special day was filled with a few shared tears, lots of smiles, and endless playtime. Dad shared that Elsie hadn’t really smiled since her diagnosis, making it beyond amazing to see her light up as she played with her new interactive book and toy.💫

Elsie’s package was filled with comfort items, including cozy pajamas for easy port access, hats to help with her hair, and a soft blanket featuring the THPF patch to remind her family that they are never alone. And so much more!

Super Sibling Solomon wasted no time playing with his new Dalmatian buddy and Paw Patrol cruiser. At just three years old, his life has also been forever changed by childhood cancer, a heartbreaking reality for so many childhood cancer siblings. This is why including siblings whenever I can is so important to me. Solomon, I hope you never lose your sense of wonder.

To my new little hero, Elsie: These past 39 days have been a whirlwind for you and your family. At just 9 months old, you have already shown us that strength is not measured by size. You are small but mighty and a Super Hero in every sense of the word. Never forget how loved you are, sweet girl. I will always be here for you. 🫶

To Elsie’s parents and family: Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of Elsie’s cancer journey. I promise to be here every step of the way. I hope you find comfort in your THPF family and know that you will never fight alone.🎗️

The Sixth Annual Super Hero Sammy Bag Drive — held in loving memory of THPF angel Sammy Hawkes — was a HUGE success! 💜

I had the pleasure of building and delivering a dozen Hero Bags filled with Sammy’s favorite things to The Izzy Foundation for our little warriors at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. A heartfelt thank you to Sammy’s mom, Ashley L. Hawkes for allowing me to do this in Sammy’s honor, and the entire Hawkes/Hopkins family for making this fundraiser such a beautiful tribute year after year. 💫

We’re also deeply grateful to everyone who supported us by fulfilling our Amazon wishlist — Robin Hopkins, Kerry Hopkins, Laura Cote, Gia Gelinas, Corinne Mattera, the Constant family, and all of you who donated anonymously. You ALL made this possible. Thank you!

This year’s Sammy Hero Bag wishlist was completely filled in just a week and a half, making this our biggest year yet! All twelve Hero Bags were overflowing—a true testament to just how deeply Sammy is loved.✨

Sammy was a silly, fun-loving five-year-old who brought endless joy and laughter wherever he went. Through every step of his treatment, he never lost his spark. He loved arts & crafts, the color purple, and was always ready to share a smile or play a joke on his nurses. For a year and a half, Sammy fought with courage and strength far beyond his years before gaining his angel wings. Though his time here was far too short, his light continues to shine through every act of kindness done in his name. 🦸🏼‍♂️

In his honor, The Hero Package Foundation will continue the Super Hero Bag Drive each September—carrying Sammy’s legacy forward with love, laughter, and hope. To every child and family facing pediatric cancer: please remember, you are never fighting alone. 🎗️✨
