Nominations are now open for the 2026 Leading Women of Distinction Awards!

Through the years, GSSNE has honored 71 Leading Women, representing many industries, organizations, and skill sets. We’ve shined a light on those who lead the way in their community by going above and beyond to help others. From teachers to executives, small business owners to CEOs, community pillars to emerging talent, Leading Women of Distinction provides a stage to recognize the hard work it takes to exemplify bravery, empathy, and drive.

This year, consider nominating exceptional women for this special honor. The Leading Women of Distinction Selection Committee will consider nominations of women of all ages and backgrounds who have contributed to the community through professional, family, volunteerism, and/or personal endeavors.

The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2026. Nominate a Leading Woman in your life at gssne.org/leadingwomen.

The GSSNE Office and Shop will be closed on Friday, June 19th, to honor and commemorate Juneteenth.

Congratulations to all our Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze Award recipients! We celebrated their accomplishments at our Highest Awards Ceremony on Sunday and we’re so proud of all their hard work!

We had 12 troops earn their Bronze Award, 8 Girl Scouts earn their Silver Award, and 9 Girl Scouts earn their Gold Award. We’d like to give a special shoutout to our Emcee, Jen Hetzel Silbert from the GSSNE Board, and our Keynote Speaker, Alison Hornung from the Glimmer of Hope Foundation, for joining us. A special thank you to Congressman Gabe Amo for sharing encouraging words with our Highest Award recipients! Thank you to all the volunteers, friends, and families for supporting their Girl Scouts!

What was your project about?
My project was creating outdoor signage for the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum to give more information on the architecture, wildlife, and history of the museum, as well as making it easier for visitors to navigate.

What is your favorite aspect of being a Girl Scout?
My favorite aspect of being a Girl Scout is the drive and motivation it gives me to help my community, and those around me.

Recently, the Cumberland Service Unit held their Annual Community Camping event at Franklin Farm RI! Many of the Cumberland Girl Scouts help at Franklin Farm in the warm months where they help with planting, weeding, and harvesting. This year, the Girl Scouts worked on their Outdoor Artist badges, learned about bees from the resident beekeeper, explored animals that live on the farm, hiked, and braved the cold to tent camp, and of course enjoyed some s’mores!
