A big thank you to Abby, David, and Carl from TBA Credit Union for spending time with us today!

They helped us get our annual giving campaign letters ready to go, prepare for our upcoming Orton-Gillingham training class, and tackle some much-needed shredding!

We got a lot accomplished, but just as important, it was another opportunity to share what GTDA does and bring awareness to the needs of individuals with dyslexia.

Thank you again, Abby, David, and Carl! We appreciate your time, your willingness to help, and your support of our mission.

At GTDA, people come first. Always.

We believe every dyslexic child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

We know that with the right instruction, dyslexic children can become confident, capable readers and writers. But we also recognize that access to specialized instruction isn't always within reach for every family.

And that is something we are determined to change.

At Grand Traverse Dyslexia Association, we believe a child's potential should never be limited by their family's financial circumstances.

We strive to break down those barriers because we see the child first. We see their strengths, their possibilities, and the difference the right support can make.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month.

Most people have heard the word dyslexia. But awareness isn't the same as understanding.

Dyslexia does not mean a child isn't intelligent. It means they learn differently and may need to be taught differently.

This month, we want to go beyond awareness. We want to talk about what dyslexia really looks like, what appropriate instruction can accomplish, and why every child deserves access to that instruction.

Let's start a conversation.

Dyslexia is a different way of processing language—not a measure of a person’s intelligence, potential, or ability to succeed.
In fact, many people with dyslexia describe strengths in areas such as creativity, problem-solving, big-picture thinking, imagination, and seeing connections others may miss. Every dyslexic person is different, and their strengths are uniquely their own.
At GTDA, we believe that when we stop focusing only on what is difficult and start recognizing how a person learns and what they do well, we begin to see the whole person.
