InterHab’s Champion Fund Committee is proud to recognize Representative Nikki McDonald as an InterHab Champion for her willingness to engage, ask questions, and help strengthen advocacy for Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Representative McDonald took the initiative to reach out to InterHab and offer thoughtful feedback on how we can better advocate and communicate the needs of the I/DD community. We are always grateful for legislators who not only want to be part of the conversation, but are willing to start it.

Her engagement is also an important reminder that you don’t have to serve on a specific committee to make a difference for Kansans with I/DD. Asking questions, building relationships, and taking the time to understand the issues are all important parts of being a champion.

Thank you, Representative McDonald, for reaching out, starting conversations, and showing that every legislator has an opportunity to be a voice for the I/DD community. We are proud to recognize you as an InterHab Champion!

InterHab’s Champion Fund Committee is proud to recognize Senator Adam Thomas as an InterHab Champion for his advocacy for Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Through his work on the Committee of Government Efficiencies (COGE), Senator Thomas has shown his support for continuous eligibility and the importance of creating processes that make sense for individuals living with lifelong disabilities. We appreciate his willingness to ask important questions and speak up about policies that can directly impact an individual’s ability to maintain access to essential services and supports.

We are grateful for legislators like Senator Thomas who take the time to understand how policy decisions affect the everyday lives of Kansans with I/DD and their families.

InterHab was grateful to be invited to join CMS, KDHE, KDADS, COF Training Services, Inc., and StationMD for a conversation about health care access for Kansans with I/DD, particularly in rural communities.

It was a great opportunity to talk about the challenges providers and the people they support experience every day and to highlight some of the exciting work happening through Kansas’ Rural Health Transformation Program, including our partnership with StationMD to expand telehealth access for Kansans with I/DD.

InterHab appreciates the opportunity to have a seat at the table and looks forward to continuing this work with partners across Kansas! 💙

InterHab’s Champion Fund Committee is proud to recognize Senator Pat Pettey as an InterHab Champion for her consistent advocacy for Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Throughout this past legislative session, Senator Pettey used her roles on Ways and Means, the Bob Bethell Joint Committee, and Conference Committees to speak up for the I/DD community and ensure their needs remained part of important policy and funding conversations.

Senator Pettey consistently asks thoughtful questions to better understand the growing I/DD waitlist and the impact it has on individuals, families, and the providers delivering essential services across Kansas. Her willingness to dig deeper into these issues and listen to those directly impacted demonstrates her commitment to strengthening the I/DD system.

We are grateful for Senator Pettey’s continued advocacy, thoughtful leadership, and commitment to Kansans with I/DD. We are proud to recognize her as an InterHab Champion!

InterHab’s Champion Fund Committee is proud to recognize Representative Lisa Moser as an InterHab Champion for her dedication to Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and the providers who support them.

Representative Moser takes the time to connect with I/DD providers in her district, listen to their experiences, and gain a deeper understanding of the needs and challenges they face every day. Those relationships help bring the realities of providing I/DD services into important policy and funding conversations at the Statehouse.

We especially appreciate Representative Moser’s willingness to speak up for the I/DD community during the Appropriations Committee and ensure these important needs are part of the conversation.

InterHab’s Champion Fund Committee is proud to recognize Senator Renee Erickson as an InterHab Champion for her continued advocacy for Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families.

Senator Erickson has consistently used her voice to advocate for the I/DD community, with a particular understanding of the needs and concerns of parents and families navigating the system. She recognizes how important strong services and supports are not only to individuals with I/DD, but to the families who rely on them.

Her advocacy also extends beyond the Statehouse. Senator Erickson makes it a priority to spend time with I/DD providers in her area, seeing firsthand the work they do, listening to the challenges they face, and asking how she can help.

We are grateful for Senator Erickson’s continued advocacy, her commitment to families, and her willingness to stay connected to the people providing and receiving services in her community. We are proud to recognize her as an InterHab Champion!

InterHab’s Champion Fund Committee is proud to recognize Senator Kenny Titus as an InterHab Champion for his thoughtful and proactive approach to strengthening services for Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Senator Titus sought out the help of a local IDD provider to better understand the needs of the I/DD system and offered thoughtful ideas about where to look within the legislative budget and policy processes for opportunities to strengthen services and supports.

We are grateful for legislators who see the challenges facing our I/DD system and want to dig deeper, ask questions, and look for meaningful solutions. Senator Titus’ willingness to engage, learn, and help identify opportunities to make a difference for Kansans with I/DD is greatly appreciated.

InterHab’s Champion Fund Committee is proud to recognize Senator Joseph Claeys as an InterHab Champion for his strong advocacy for Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Senator Claeys has been a vocal supporter of improving transportation services for the I/DD community, recognizing that reliable transportation is essential to accessing jobs, medical appointments, day services, and the communities where people live.

We especially appreciate Senator Claeys’ willingness to take this issue to the Senate floor and advocate for better transportation options. By bringing attention to these challenges before the full Senate, he helped elevate an issue that directly impacts the independence, opportunities, and everyday lives of Kansans with I/DD.
