Join us for a trail workday this Sunday morning 4/12, from 9:00am-12:00pm. Last time we had 31 volunteers and completed 600ft of trail. Let’s beat that this week! Hope to see you out there.

With thunderstorms rolling through the area this morning, we're happy to announce a new Trail program! UTC has constructed and maintains over 200 miles of trail in the Kansas City area but what good are they if they're always closed? In an effort to make sure the trail status is 100% accurate, 100% of the time, we're starting a new program called MindYourInch! We'll be instating a new Trail Steward for every inch of Trail, LITERALLY. We're looking for a few good people to sign up, only needing approximately 13,000,000 new volunteers. Ask your local steward how you can sign up!

No matter who you are, getting out on the trails to help build and maintain them is a powerful way to give back to the community. Every hour of volunteer work helps keep our trails safe, sustainable, and ready for everyone to hike, bike, and explore. Grab some gloves, lend a hand, and be part of the crew that keeps our trails thriving.

Join us for a trail workday this Saturday, 3/14 from 9:00am–12:30pm as we continue building a brand new trail. The Trailblazers NICA youth mountain bike team will be out there helping move the project forward, and we would love to have more volunteers join the crew.

We’ve started work on a new green-level trail called Chinkapin, located in the wooded area between the powerlines, the bike path, and 127th St. When complete, it will add about 2.3 miles of new singletrack to the system.

Parking will be in a new spot on 127th St., just east of where we previously parked under the power lines. Come out, lend a hand, and help build the trails we all get to ride.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED: Bring water and wear sturdy work clothes, gloves, safety glasses and sturdy shoes/boots; Sweat pants, tights, etc. will not likely survive trail work, wear jeans or something with similar durability.

WHAT TO EXPECT: For tools, we will mostly be using rouge hoes and pick mattocks. We have lots of tools at the park so if you don't have tools, we will have something for you to use.

Location Coordinates: 38°53'53.8"N 94°53'37.1"W

As colder weather moves back in this weekend, it’s important to remember how freeze thaw impacts our trails. When temps drop overnight and warm up during the day, the ground softens and becomes vulnerable to damage. If the dirt is muddy, leaving ruts, or sticking to your shoes or tires, it’s too soft to use. Check trail status before heading out and help protect the trails so they stay in great shape for everyone

Scouts showed up strong this week, putting in real work on the trails. They helped with de-berming and root removal on the Red Valley DH from the Gold intersection. Big thanks to this crew for giving their time and energy to keep the trails running clean.

Thanks to JCPRD Marketing Department for capturing these moments!
