What a wonderful day at Reinisch Rose Garden. It is located in Gage Park Topeka, KS. It is a recommended visit the next 2 weeks to see a flush of Blooms.

Wow! I was blown away by the lifetime achievements of rose hybridizer Ping Lim who was featured in a Zoom meeting sponsored by the American Rose Society this evening! Notable varieties that he is responsible for include Love and Peace, Rainbow Sorbet, the True Bloom and Easy Elegance series, but to name a few. His emphasis is on own-root, disease resistant, high performance roses that don't require pesticides. There was a Q&A session at the end where I jokingly asked if he was working on any Japanese beetle resistant varieties. Alas, he is not--although deer resistant varieties are on his radar. Asked by one attendee what advice he had for would-be rose hybridisers, and he said persistence and passion were the primary qualities needed to pursue new varieties as the process would take nearly ten years to develop a single variety with no influx of income. A very inspiring presentation that filled me with gratitude for the contributions this one man has made to improving roses for all of us! --Terry Olson
