YWCA Northeast Kansas YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting social justice for all. They come for job training and career counseling. But they come.
(1)

The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women's organization in the world. Across the globe, we have more than 25 million members in 106 countries, including 2.6 million members and participants in 300 local associations in the United States. More important than the numbers, is our mission to eliminate racism and empower women. We provide safe places for women and girls, build strong women leaders, and advocate for women's rights and civil rights in Congress. Women come to us in times of crisis, as survivors of rape or domestic violence. They come for childcare. They come for health and fitness. They come for a variety of reasons. And they leave with a renewed spirit, new skills, and stronger lives.

Our Community Engagement team was busy making connections and spreading awareness yesterday! 💜

Noelle visited Washburn University to talk with students about teen dating violence and what a healthy relationship looks like, including the importance of respect, communication, and healthy boundaries.

She then headed to Topeka Correctional Facility to share information with staff about the services and support available through our Center for Safety and Empowerment.

From educating young people to connecting professionals with valuable resources, we’re proud to be out in the community raising awareness, building connections, and helping create safer, healthier communities!

Congratulations to our Capital Peace Project team on being named the 2026 Shawnee County Public Health Champion! 💚

This recognition highlights the important work our CPP team is doing to treat violence as a preventable public health issue and shift community conversations from reaction to prevention.

As their nominator shared:

"By treating violence as a preventable public health problem, Capital Peace Project is helping shift community conversations from reaction to prevention. They are transforming how Shawnee County responds to violence and helps individuals, families, and neighborhoods impacted by trauma."

We are so proud of our CPP team and grateful for their dedication to creating a safer, healthier community. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

Who knew our CEO and Grant Manager moonlighted as roofers? 😂🔨

Yesterday, Cheri and Janelle took teamwork to a whole new level by climbing onto the roof in the pouring rain to fix a leak!

Talk about going above and beyond! From leading our organization to rolling up their sleeves and tackling unexpected challenges, these two truly do it all. We're lucky to have team members who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty! 💪💜

“If you see somebody without a smile, give ‘em yours.” – Dolly Parton

We’re spreading smiles and a little Dolly-inspired sparkle at YWCA Northeast Kansas today.

Our 9.25 Dolly Day includes butterflies for those donating books to our free library, Dollywood style cinnamon bread, hourly quotes by Dolly, and plenty of pink, denim & sparkles.

And just since it's a rainy day in Northeast Kansas, we'll share another Dolly quote, "The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."

A heartfelt thank you to the General Federation of Women’s Clubs for their generous donation to our Center for Safety and Empowerment! 💜

These thoughtful bags were created as a service project during the GRWC Mississippi Valley Region Conference, held right here in Topeka. We are so grateful for the time, care, and generosity that went into putting them together.

General Federation of Women’s Clubs members make a difference in their communities through service and advocacy, supporting the arts, education, healthy lifestyles, natural resources, civic involvement, children, and efforts to raise awareness and prevent domestic and sexual violence.

Thank you for choosing to support survivors and for helping us continue this important work in our community!

Our Community Engagement Team recently visited Baker University’s School of Nursing at Stormont Vail Hospital to lead nursing students through In Their Shoes, an interactive simulation that allows participants to “walk” in the shoes of a victim/survivor of teen dating violence.

The simulation helps participants understand the challenges victims/survivors may face and the systems they must navigate when seeking safety and support.

Students also participated in an Introduction to Domestic Violence presentation, providing them with information, resources, and practical tools to better support victims and survivors in their communities.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to equip future healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to recognize, respond to, and support those impacted by domestic violence. 💜

We’ve been so grateful for the incredible volunteers who have already picked up a paintbrush and helped transform the new Center for Safety and Empowerment (CSE) Day Center. 💜 THANK YOU to everyone who has volunteered so far!

And we’re not done yet! We’ve added more painting opportunities, and we’d love for you to join us.

The CSE Day Center is moving to a new space, and we’re creating a place that feels warm, welcoming, and safe for survivors. Gather your coworkers, friends, family, or community crew and sign up for a painting shift—or come volunteer on your own!

Every hour you give—and every brushstroke you make—helps us save renovation dollars that can be put toward new flooring throughout the Day Center.

✨ Grab your crew. Pick a shift. Paint with purpose. Help us create the next chapter of the CSE Day Center!
