Prayer for the faithful departed

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

✨ Happy All Saints’ Day! ✨

Today, we celebrate the countless saints who have gone before us—ordinary people who lived extraordinary lives through their faith, love, courage, and devotion to God. 🙏

Some are known throughout the world, while others are known only to God. Each reminds us that holiness is not reserved for a chosen few. We are ALL called to be saints! ❤️

May their examples inspire us to live with greater faith, love more deeply, and grow closer to Christ each day.

🌟 “Be holy, for I am holy.” — 1 Peter 1:16

From all of us at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, may you have a blessed and joyful All Saints’ Day!

🙏 All you holy men and women, pray for us!

🕯️ Three Sacred Days: All Hallows' Eve, All Saints' Day & All Souls' Day 🇮🇪

In Ireland, the days between 31st October and 2nd November have long been associated with faith, remembrance and the passing of generations.

Three closely connected observances mark this special time in the Christian calendar, each carrying its own meaning.

🌙 31st October - All Hallows' Eve

The evening before All Saints' Day. The word Hallow is an old term for a saint or holy person.

In Ireland, this time of year also coincides with Samhain, the ancient seasonal festival marking the transition towards winter. Although their histories are distinct, both became associated with a time of year rich in traditions and beliefs about the supernatural.

🙏 1st November - All Saints' Day

A day honouring all the saints, both known and unknown.

For generations, Irish Catholic families have marked this holy day by attending Mass, giving thanks for the saints and reflecting on the Christian hope of eternal life.

🕯️ 2nd November - All Souls' Day

A day dedicated to praying for the faithful departed.

Across Ireland, families have traditionally visited cemeteries, tended graves, lit candles and offered prayers for parents, grandparents, relatives and friends who have passed away.

For many, these simple acts of remembrance have been passed down through generations.

Three days. Three traditions. One enduring connection between faith, family and those who have gone before us. ❤️

The candles may eventually burn out, but the memories of those we love remain.

Does your family still mark these three days, or light a candle for someone dearly missed?

✨ ALL SAINTS’ DAY • NOVEMBER 1 ✨
🙏 All holy men and women of God, pray for us!

We celebrate all the saints in Heaven, the well-known and the unknown, those honored on our calendars and those whose quiet holiness was seen by God alone. 🤍

😇 They came from every walk of life: mothers and fathers, priests and religious, workers and children. They faced sorrow, illness, temptation, and uncertainty. Through God’s grace, they kept learning to love Him and their neighbor.

🌿 Their lives remind us that holiness can grow in ordinary moments: a patient word, a hidden sacrifice, forgiveness offered, a prayer whispered through tears.

🌹 Whatever your age or circumstances, God is still calling you to become a saint. It is never too late to draw closer to Him. 💛

🙏✝️ TRADITIONAL PRAYER FOR ALL SAINTS’ DAY

💛 Almighty and everlasting God, who hast granted to honor in one solemn Feast the merits of all Thy Saints: we beseech Thee, that through the multitude of intercessors, Thou wouldst bestow upon us the desired abundance of Thy atonement.

✝️ Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.

Amen. 🕊️
