Terre Haute is a college town, and that is one of our competitive advantages. 🎓

As students return to campuses across our community, they bring new ideas and develop the skills and talent that will help shape tomorrow’s workforce. With multiple higher education institutions calling our community home, Terre Haute offers businesses access to emerging talent while giving students a place to launch careers, build connections, and create their futures.

Strengthening relationships with our local industries is an important part of building a stronger economic future for Terre Haute.

Yesterday, THEDC leadership joined Congressman Mark Messmer for a tour of GE Aerospace, providing an opportunity to learn more about their operations, workforce needs and the role they play in our local economy. ✈️

These conversations and firsthand engagement with our community’s employers help us better understand how we can support their success, strengthen our workforce and create opportunities for continued growth in our community.

In case you missed it, more investment is coming right here to Terre Haute!

More than $2.5 million in READI 2.0 Arts & Culture funding were awarded across West Central Indiana, including support for projects in Terre Haute that will create new spaces and experiences for residents and visitors.

Projects like these add to the momentum already taking shape across Terre Haute, creating new amenities and experiences that strengthen quality of place and make our community more attractive to people, businesses and future investment. This progress doesn't happen by accident though. It reflects the continued work of local leaders and community partners who are investing in Terre Haute and building toward its future.

Some exciting news for the region! More than $2.5 million in READI 2.0 Arts & Culture funding has been awarded to West Central Indiana. Some of the funded projects include the Arts Collaborative Hub at The Indiana Theatre, the Terre Haute Children’s Museum 8th Street Playscape and City Park Event Lawn and the Wabash Valley Arts and Access & Touring Initiative by Arts Illiana. These projects all align with the Regional Arts & Cultural Plan. This plan was designed to strengthen local arts organizations and position creativity as a driver of economic vitality and quality of place across Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties.

Economic development is strengthened by connection, collaboration and a shared focus on what comes next!

This afternoon, THEDC board members joined business, education, government and community leaders at the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Innovate West Central Indiana event at Indiana State University.

Being part of events like this gives THEDC the opportunity to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas and keep Terre Haute well connected and positioned for new opportunities.

Every investment in infrastructure helps strengthen our community’s ability to grow. ✈️

Congratulations to the Terre Haute Regional Airport on the ribbon cutting for its new transient hangar. This addition enhances the airport’s capacity to serve visiting aircraft, supports business and general aviation, and reinforces the airport’s role as a transportation asset for Vigo County.

The impact of this project also stayed close to home. Spearhead Construction, a local contractor, led the construction with local labor helping bring the project to life. Investing in local companies and workers means more of that investment stays right here in our community.

Investments like these improve connectivity, support economic development, and help position Terre Haute for continued growth. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this project a reality! 👏
