Investments in community assets drive economic impact.

The Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course has established Terre Haute as a premier destination for championship sporting events. Last year alone, the facility hosted 10 events that generated more than $7 million in economic revenue for the community.

That means more visitors in local hotels, more customers in local restaurants, and more dollars flowing through businesses across Vigo County. It also shows visitors why THIS is the place to live, work and build a future.

That's economic development in action!

Following ThyssenKrupp Presta North America’s announcement that its Terre Haute facility will close in March 2027, community leaders and regional partners are already working to support affected employees and connect them with new opportunities.

The Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation is disappointed to learn of ThyssenKrupp Presta North America’s decision to close its Terre Haute facility.

ThyssenKrupp Presta has been an important employer and community partner in Vigo County for many years. Our first concern is for the employees and families affected by this announcement, and our immediate priority is to work alongside our partners at the Western Indiana Workforce Development Board and others across the region to help connect affected workers with available resources, employers, training opportunities, and job placement support.

Any significant workforce transition creates understandable uncertainty for employees, families, and local businesses. The THEDC is actively coordinating with workforce, government, education, and industry partners to support a thoughtful and proactive community response in the months ahead.

Plant closures are difficult for any community, and this announcement is no exception. While this news is significant, Vigo County and West Central Indiana continue to offer strong regional assets, strategic infrastructure, and collaborative partnerships that position this region for future investment and growth.

The THEDC remains committed to advancing the long-term economic strength and competitiveness of West Central Indiana, and we remain confident in the future of this community.
