Farrington's Grove has been home to Terre Haute families since the 1800s. After all these years, you've got to wonder what these old houses remember.

Creaky stairs at 2 a.m.? A cold spot that won't quit? A door that opens on its own? 🚪

Tell us your spookiest Grove story in the comments before Halloween. Real or just a good tale, we want to hear it.🕯️

Ever notice brick peeking through the asphalt in Farrington’s Grove? 🧱

That’s original street paving from the neighborhood’s boom years (1890s–1920s). Back then, dirt and gravel roads turned to mud in every rainstorm — so cities switched to vitrified brick: extra-hard, glazed, and nearly waterproof. Terre Haute was perfectly positioned for it, sitting near West Terre Haute’s clay mines, which cranked out paving brick by the millions.
By the mid-1900s, cheaper asphalt took over and got laid right on top — bricks and all. A century later, they’re still down there, quietly outlasting the pavement above them.
Share your favorite brick spots in the Grove! This is Deming Street.
