August is Make-A-Will Month! Creating a will is an important step in planning for the future and ensuring your wishes are honored. It’s also an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the causes and communities you care about. Take a little time this month to make a plan for what matters most.

A project we were proud to support through a grant is now helping people experience Terre Haute’s history in a whole new way!

The 12 Points District now has a self-guided historic walking tour. Turquoise posts throughout the district feature QR codes that visitors can scan to learn about the history of important buildings and landmarks along the way.

The tour offers a great opportunity to explore the 12 Points and Collett Park neighborhoods, enjoy a walk of just over a mile, and discover more about the people, places and stories that helped shape this part of Terre Haute.

We love seeing grant-funded projects come to life and create new ways for our community to connect with its history. If you’re in the area, take a walk and check it out!

We’re excited to welcome new leadership to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation’s program team!

Please join us in congratulating Tess DeHart on her promotion to Program Director and welcoming Lidia Yigezu as our new Program Associate.

Tess joined the Community Foundation in 2022 and has been an integral part of our grant, scholarship and Youth Grant Committee programs. In her new role, she’ll oversee grant and scholarship programs across the Wabash Valley and continue building relationships with the donors, volunteers, nonprofits, students and families we serve.

Lidia joins us with more than a decade of experience in community service and program development. She’ll support our grant and scholarship programs and help connect people and organizations with resources that strengthen our communities.

This transition follows the retirement of longtime Program Director Kelli Miller, whose more than 30 years of service have left an incredible legacy at the Community Foundation. We’re grateful for all Kelli has done for our community and excited for Tess and Lidia to carry that work forward.

Welcome to your new roles, Tess and Lidia! We’re so glad you’re part of the team.

...AND THAT’S A CHECKERED FLAG FOR Kelli Miller! 🍯🏁

After more than 30 years with the Wabash Valley Community Foundation, our friend, coworker, storyteller, grant guru and resident Pooh enthusiast has officially crossed the finish line and is heading into retirement! 🎉

And who better to help celebrate than her favorite “silly old bear,” Winnie-the-Pooh? 🍯

For those of us who have had the privilege of working alongside Kelli, we know there’s so much more to her story than the impressive numbers -- 14,335 grants and 5,907 scholarships!

We know Kelli for her great stories, quick wit, generous heart and genuine care for the Community Foundation and the people it serves. For more than three decades, she made sure donors, nonprofits, students and families were taken care of, and somehow managed to make us laugh along the way. ❤️

Over the years, Kelli became so much more than a coworker. She became a friend, a familiar voice, a source of laughter and a very special part of our work family.

And now, she’s crossed that finish line! 🏁

Not because she’s running away from us (maybe?), but because some very important people are waiting for her on the other side -- her grandchildren! 😂❤️ And if you know Kelli, you know those grandkids are her WHY. As Pooh reminds us, “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” 🍯

Retirement also means more time for the things Kelli loves: her grandkids, her beloved Winnie-the-Pooh, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, rooting for the Cardinals and, of course, enjoying the freedom to do whatever comes next!

Kelli, we hope this next chapter is filled with Pooh-sized adventures, honey-sweet moments, Hawkeye wins, Cardinals victories, lots of laughter and all the grandkid time your heart can handle.

We’re going to miss you more than we can say, but we couldn’t be happier for you. Happy Retirement, Kelli! You’ve crossed the finish line, and you’ve earned every bit of this next adventure. 🏁💛

Now, go enjoy your next chapter with Pooh by your side and a couple of your new "bosses" leading the way! 😉
