“Everyone thinks I’m just being their friend…but that’s not what I’m doing.”

When you see a paraprofessional laughing with a student, talking with them, or staying close by, it might look like friendship from the outside.

But Jaya Shelton explains there’s intention behind those moments.

She’s building trust so she can teach. She’s learning how that student communicates. She’s helping them understand social cues, advocate for themselves, work through challenges, and eventually need less support.

The connection matters, but the goal is always growth and independence. 💙

For Greer McGuiness, the turning point came when she realized gluten was affecting her son. After removing it she says the difference was like night and day.

But her biggest message is this: there isn't a quick fix.

Nutrition isn't about chasing overnight results or finding one miracle solution. It's about making thoughtful, individualized changes over time and working together to support each child's unique needs.

Progress may be gradual, but meaningful improvements are possible when families have the right guidance, realistic expectations, and a plan built around their child.

Every child is different, and every journey deserves patience, compassion, and hope.

Many autistic individuals place an incredibly high value on honesty. They tend to mean what they say, keep their word, and expect others to do the same.

Because of that, dishonesty, hidden agendas, or broken promises can be especially confusing and hurtful.

It's another reminder that autism isn't simply a list of challenges. There are strengths, values, and ways of seeing the world that all of us can learn from.

Sometimes helping means knowing when to step back.

When we constantly jump in, answer for a child, or do something because it feels easier or faster, we may unintentionally take away an opportunity for them to learn.

In this clip from Autism Explained, paraprofessional Jaya Shelton talks about the importance of giving autistic students the space to try, make mistakes, problem-solve, and figure things out for themselves.

Support should be there when they need it, but so should the opportunity to say, “Let me try.”

Movement is for everybody. 💙🥋

You don’t have to play a traditional sport to experience the confidence, connection, and sense of community that can come from being active.

As Zoë puts it, everybody may kick a little differently, but we can all kick.

By working hand-in-hand with growing communities here in Tallahassee, the goal is to create more spaces where neurodivergent children feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to participate in a way that works for them.

Because finding your community should never depend on a diagnosis or how you move.
