Raina (A1887350) was given just seven days to live.
A frightened dog sitting in a kennel, overwhelmed and unsure of the world around her. While she was facing the fight of her life, a video surfaced showing staff throwing treats at her and mocking her through the kennel door. A bystander captured it all, and as the video spread across the internet, the shelter quickly removed it and reposted it without sound.
But the damage was already done.
Raina was labeled. Judged. Marked with a large orange sticker that read "WILL BITE." Her file was filled with negative remarks that painted her as something she was not.
The truth?
Raina wasn't vicious. She wasn't aggressive. She was terrified.
Where was the compassion? Where was the understanding for an animal sitting in a loud, stressful environment, scared and alone?
At Boulder Canyon Rescue, we saw something different. We saw a dog who deserved a chance. We saw a life worth fighting for. We chose to believe in her when so many others had already written her off.
Together, WE saved her.
I knew finding Raina's forever home would take a special person—someone patient, kind, compassionate, and willing to look beyond labels. Then Josh and his amazing wife, Kaitlynn, came into her life.
After spending over an hour talking with Josh, I knew. I knew he understood what Raina truly needed. Not because she was "dangerous," but because she needed what every dog deserves: time, patience, trust, and love.
Josh and Kaitlynn share the same compassion for animals that drives us every single day. They saw Raina for who she really is, not what others claimed she was.
Today, Raina is home.
Safe. Loved. Wanted.
This is what rescue is supposed to be about.
To those who labeled her, mocked her, and failed her when she needed help the most—you should take a hard look at why you entered this field in the first place.
To Josh and Kaitlynn, thank you for seeing her heart.
And to Raina—congratulations, sweet girl. Your past does not define you. Your forever starts now. ❤️🐾
