Sturgis Area Arts Council Art is the HeART of the Community!
🎨 🎭 🎶 📚 To achieve this goal, we work closely with all facets of our community.

How we began....

In the mid-1970s, an organization named "Why Not Sturgis?" was formed to promote the presentation of and participation in the arts in the Sturgis, South Dakota community. As an evolution of that group, in 1979, the Sturgis Area Arts Council was founded and officially recognized by local government. The mission of the Sturgis Area Arts Council is "to initiate, sponsor, and conduct

public programs to further the development and awareness of and interest in the arts". We rely greatly upon donations and sponsorships from local individuals and businesses. We encourage local participation by presenting programs using local artists.

As the kids say… this collaboration is GOATED. 🐐 And on September 20 at 2 PM, the Matthews Opera House is hosting the herd!

GOAT: Getting Our Acts Together. Four Northern Hills theaters. Four one-act plays. Four nights of local talent bringing the drama (the fun kind).

“Charlie to the Checkout Please” - Sturgis Community Theater
“Good Neighbors” - Belle Fourche Area Community Theater
“Sure Thing” - Homestake Opera House

LET'S PICNIC, STURGIS! 🍔🤘

Join us on September 2nd for our annual Sturgis Community Appreciation Picnic, and also the finale of Sturgis Music on Main!

Enjoy free BBQ for residents and an acoustic set from Lucas Olson starting at 5pm, then join our very last recreational mountain bike race and headlining band, Flannel, starting at 6pm!

We'll also have a Nonprofit Fair all evening showcasing the wonderful work being done in and around Sturgis!

For those of you that might now know - Sturgis sculptor Dale Lamphere designed the Arc of Dreams.

In memory of Dolly Parton, the Arc of Dreams will shine pink over Sioux Falls. 💗

A beloved artist, storyteller and philanthropist, Dolly brought joy to generations through her music, unmistakable spirit and extraordinary generosity.

The Arc will glow pink tonight through Monday, Aug. 31 as we join fans around the world in celebrating her life and legacy.
