In recent days many folks have been inquiring about the goings on at “Moontown Sound”. Ultimately Moontown was created to serve some basic needs. Matt Baker owner of The Dancing Soundman needed a suitable working space to efficiently serve the music community. David Bates also needed something in Springfield Missouri for his band The Silence Between to practice. In the love for doing awesome stuff conversations were had about starting a business. Pretty sure the conversation went…”You want to also start a business? Ok? Well what type of business do you want to do? Music and stuff”.

Sometime in February a space was secured, and we began moving in. Couple names floated around for the business name, but ultimately “Moontown Sound” could not be passed up. For most folks that have been around these parts, Springfield has been associated to the name “Moon City”. Some folks may not know, that prior to Springfield becoming the city it is today, at one time North Springfield was a former city, and was known as “North Town” or “Moon Town.” Interestingly, from our understanding, the southern city limits of Moon Town at that time were shared with Springfield at Division Street…hence the name. Currently our location is right off Division Street and National. Weird….right? The word “Sound” was also added to the name to make it official. Music, performance and the arts are the foundation for everything we do.

When messing with the initial logo a couple ideas were added to visually try to explain what Moontown is. In the logo you will notice Hammons Tower, and the Commercial Street walking bridge. Those are the obvious things relating to Springfield. If you look a little closer, you will also notice some special text. “The Dancing Soundman” as well “TSB” (The Silence Between). As we grow, and partner with folks, and friends, the logo will change over time with additions.

So here we are…We are musicians, dreamers, artist, sound engines, visual geeks and performance seekers as well as givers. With our solid (ha) business plan of doing “Music and stuff”.

What is Moontown to you? We can't wait to see some of the creations that you are a part of...Its going to be phenom. Lets have a conversation.

If you need help with any of the above-mentioned things and/or logos, videos, streaming, photography, musicians to hire, multi-track audio recording, records, merch sales, lighting, private parties, rehearsal space, posters, equipment rental and sales, or just wanna hang out, then stop on by. We would also be happy to come to you and/or your event.
