Opportunities

• Host Orientation meetings.

Opportunities for Individuals
• Create Care Packages
• Get involved at your local Child Welfare office. Help spruce up your local office or provide much needed encouragement to DSHS Child Welfare Staff. No time, talent or gift too small!!
• Become an office mom or office dad-Ensure that no child waits alone while in a DSHS Child Welfare Office. Volunteers entertain, care for and distract children in the office while their worker looks for a placement or has a meeting. facebook.com/EmbraceWashington
Business Partnerships
• Donate needed goods and services directly to your local DSHS Child Welfare office. (This could be tangible needs of the office such as furniture and rugs or providing some much needed encouragement to staff through a donated lunch, coffee or treats. (A tax ID letter may be available)
• Host an event at your business for those interested in supporting vulnerable families.
• Invite someone from DSHS Child Welfare to come and give a presentation to your business about the needs and reality of children in our community.
• Donate supplies or money to support an event for the retention of foster parents (Such as Foster Parent’s Night Out) or for the recruitment of foster and adoptive parents. Foster parents from your congregation along with local DSH contact can host an informational session about becoming a foster parent.
• Start a Foster Parents’ Night Out-churches and volunteers partner with DSHS to provide an evening of respite for foster parents while kids have a safe and fun experience. e-mail: [email protected]

♟️ Sometimes, a small opportunity can change everything.

This summer, Embrace Washington helped a 6-year-old boy in foster care attend several days of chess camp.

Recently, his foster mom told us just how much that experience meant.

As a child on the autism spectrum, he has faced significant challenges with social and emotional development. But in chess, he found something that clicked. He fell completely in love with the game, and his foster mom has watched his confidence, engagement, and excitement grow.

The impact has been so meaningful that his family is now working with his school to explore starting a chess club so he can continue pursuing something he loves.

To some, a few days of chess camp might seem like a small thing.

But to this little boy, it became his thing, a place to belong, grow, connect, and shine. 💙

And that’s what your support of Embrace makes possible.

You aren't simply funding activities. You're giving children in foster care opportunities to discover who they are and what they can become.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is both an opportunity to celebrate and an opportunity to reflect.

Today, we recognize the histories, cultures, resilience, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples and Tribal Nations.

For organizations working alongside children and families involved in the child welfare system, there is another important part of this conversation: disproportionality.

In Washington State, American Indian and Alaska Native children represent approximately 1% of the child population but about 4% of children in foster care.

That disparity matters.

It also reminds us that supporting a child cannot be separated from supporting their identity, relationships, community, and culture. For Native children in foster care, maintaining connections to relatives, Tribal communities, traditions, and culture can be an essential part of belonging and well-being.

At Embrace Washington, our mission is centered on children, but meaningful service requires us to see the whole child and recognize the communities and relationships surrounding them.

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the Indigenous children and families we serve across Eastern Washington and recognize the Tribal Nations and communities whose strength, culture, knowledge, and traditions continue to enrich our region.

There is still work to do. Today is an important reminder that listening, learning, partnership, and culturally responsive support must remain part of that work.

A huge thank you to and for another incredible donation for the children and youth we serve! ❤️

This shipment of holiday-themed tween clothing, cozy robes, slippers, and other goodies arrived at such an important time. These gifts will help children in foster care feel seen, cared for, and a little extra special as we head into the holiday season.

We are so grateful to and for continuing to show up for children in foster care and helping Embrace Washington put resources directly into the hands of kids who need them. 💙

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀💗

This month, we honor the fighters, celebrate the survivors, remember those we have lost, and recognize the incredible families and caregivers standing beside the people they love.

We were so grateful for the opportunity to spend time with members of the Auxiliary, share more about the children and families Embrace serves, and accept this wonderful gift on their behalf.

Every donation helps us continue providing resources, opportunities, and moments of joy for children experiencing foster care throughout Eastern Washington. It means so much to know that organizations right here in our community believe in these kids and want to help them thrive. ❤️
