We've worked for 75 years to provide resources to support vibrant, healthy parks and accessible outdoor recreation programs throughout our region.

Now it's time to celebrate the Spokane Parks Foundation's 75th anniversary.

Please join us for FREE rides at the historic Looff Carrousel in Riverfront Park on Thursday, October 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Master carrousel maker Charles I.D. Looff created it as a wedding gift for his daughter and originally opened it at Natatorium Park on July 18, 1909. Nat Park closed in 1967. The carrousel spent years in storage before reopening in Riverfront Park in 1975. These days, the original 54 horses, one giraffe, one tiger, and two chariot benches welcome over 300,000 riders every year.

Be sure to join us for free rides in Riverfront Park on Thursday, October 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Today is about honoring voices that have shaped our communities in lasting ways. On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, let's celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and wisdom of Indigenous peoples across the nation. Take a moment to listen, learn, and reflect—there’s so much we can gain from embracing diverse histories.

The Spokane Parks Foundation welcomed the chance to help Play and Learn in the Park share accessible play and early learning opportunities for 112 children over the summer.

We provided a grant that organizers used to create hands-on learning experiences, such as sensory tables, active play equipment, puzzles, and infant toys, as well as a variety of materials to help children of different ages explore and create. Children, caregivers, and others gathered in Coeur D' Alene Park in Browne's Addition.

The program, a collaborative effort between Community-Minded Enterprises, the Inland Northwest Early Learning Alliance, and the Friends of Coeur d'Alene Park - Spokane, aimed at advancing diversity and inclusion for low-income, socially isolated families of children 5 years old and younger.

Play and Lean in the Park welcomed 13 children, and caregiver sets for each of the summer's ten sessions. Organizers shared with us success stories such as the regular attendee who planned her second birthday party at Play and Learn because it's her favorite place. She shared the activities she loves with her favorite people.

We're honored to support programs like this that share our love of outdoor spaces with the youngest and most vulnerable among us.

We're grateful for the opportunity to support the Police Activities League (PAL) by awarding a grant to the Spokane Police Foundation. PAL offers a holistic approach to crime prevention by focusing on reducing drug and gang involvement.

Created in 2013, the outreach program continues to grow. This year, 275 unduplicated youth participated. That's a 37.5% increase over 2025. Kids join in fun, structured activities in area parks with an eye on building bridges between community members and police. Leaders help participants focus on five core values: honesty, integrity, leadership, sportsmanship, and respect.

Thank you for letting the Spokane Parks Foundation spread the PAL message and help create positive outcomes for families and children!
