Contact City Council in support of joining the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.
Today at 3:30 (Monday, May 18), Spokane City Council is scheduled to take up a recommendation that 350 Spokane helped to draft (through our participation on City Council's Sustainability Action Subcommittee) to make Spokane a signatory to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.
The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy is an international alliance of cities and local governments with a shared long-term vision of promoting and supporting voluntary action to create a less polluting and more resilient society. This is a historic and powerful response by the world’s cities to address the climate crisis. It is the broadest global alliance committed to sustainability leadership, building on the commitment of over 10,000 cities and local governments from six continents and 127 countries, representing more than 770 million people.
In normal times, we would have the opportunity to attend City Council meetings and give testimony in support. However, with the need to maintain social distancing, for now we will have to be content to write to City Council to express support for this important resolution.
