CKC was honored to be a part of the Taino heritage proclamation made by on behalf of the County.
Taino Arawak were the indigenous people Columbus met in 1492, thinking he had landed in India when it was really the Caribbean.
Although the Taino have faced tremendous hardship and discrimination, they have continued to survive through their strength and spirit *Arieto Yukayu Guayiga*
In fact, Maryland is home to over 293,000 Taíno descendants, 22,000 In Montgomery County alone.
CKC is working with
on planning an indigenous peoples gathering at one of our farms - for what better way to honor the land's original inhabitants and create space for their descendents to be seen, heard and thrive.
