Family, we have another great Monday coming your way on The Senior Zone.

We’ll start with Margaret Foster of The Beacon Newspapers and our monthly look at what you’ll find inside their October issue.

Then, with Fire Prevention Week underway, Tony White, Assistant Fire Marshal with DC Fire And EMS, joins us to talk about keeping ourselves—and the homes we love—safer as we age.

And later, no guest. Just you and me.

I want to spend a few minutes talking about something I’ve been thinking about:

Are you ready for the life you’re living?

We spend years preparing for retirement and getting older. But are we also remembering to enjoy this chapter while we’re in it?
Join me Monday.

Family, we’ve got another strong show coming your way this Monday on The Senior Zone.

We’re starting with Legal Counsel for the Elderly, where Albert Reed, Senior Ombudsman Specialist, will talk about residents’ rights as we get ready for Residents’ Rights Month in October.

Then Saunya Connelly, Tenant Empowerment Specialist, joins us to discuss third-party energy suppliers in DC and what consumers should understand before agreeing to a new energy plan or provider.

In Segment Two, I’m reconnecting with someone I’ve known for more than a decade — Shememe Williams, Founder and CEO of My Active Senior.

Some of you may remember the Senior Spa Days, MidDay Galas and other events we were involved with years ago around the DMV. We’re going to talk about how that work has grown and where My Active Senior is headed today.

And before we close, we’ll have our Birthdays of the Week, Dear Grave Woman featuring Simone, and Later Life Lowdown.

Our Weekly Vitamin this week: Never confuse getting older with becoming smaller. Your voice, your choices and your presence still matter.

Join me Monday, September 28, from 10:00–11:00 AM ET.

And if you can’t join us live, look for the episode afterward on The Senior Zone podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music and other major podcast platforms.

Family, we have another meaningful conversation coming your way Monday on The Senior Zone.

First, Dr. Deborah Heiser LLC, founder of The Mentor Project, joins me to talk about something I believe deeply: our experience still has value.

Retirement or a changing role doesn’t erase decades of lessons, wisdom and knowledge. Sometimes the next chapter is about finding a new way to share them.

Then we'll talk with Dr. Lara Goitein, a pulmonary and critical care physician, about something many families find intimidating—the ICU. She’ll help us understand what happens there, what questions families should ask and how we can navigate the experience with greater confidence.

Family, we have a special show coming your way Monday on The Senior Zone.

We’re officially launching THE LONGEVITY ZONE—an ongoing Senior Zone conversation about not simply living longer, but living longer, healthier and better.

My first guest is Dr. Jean Accius, President & CEO of CHC: Creating Healthier Communities. We’ll talk about the longevity gap, why where you live can influence how long and how well you live, and what we can do to change that.

Then, Marcy Kelly Author, author of the forthcoming The Porcelain Heart: A Mother’s Memoir of Unexpected Loss, joins me for an intimate conversation about losing her only child, Michael—and navigating grief while keeping love and memory alive.

One show. Two very different conversations.

But both remind us of something important:

Life isn't measured only by its length. It's also measured by its depth.

Join us Monday, September 14, from 10:00–11:00 AM ET on WYCB Spirit 1340am, or stream live at MySpiritDC.com.

And remember—The Senior Zone is now available on demand wherever you listen to podcasts.

Family, Labor Day may signal the unofficial end of summer—but it can also be the perfect time to pause and ask:

What’s working? What needs to change? And are we spending enough time on what truly matters to us?

That’s where we’re headed this Monday on The Senior Zone.

First, Margaret Foster, Editor of The Beacon Newspapers, joins us with a look at what’s inside the September 2026 issue.

Then, Laura Brennan Ballet, author of The Science of Empowerment, joins me for a conversation about creating your own fall reset—reassessing your priorities, becoming more intentional, and making sure your time and energy are aligned with the life you want to live.

And Johanna Shreve, Chief Tenant Advocate for the D.C. Office of The Tenant Advocate, joins us to talk about important protections for older renters, where tenants can turn for help, and the upcoming Annual Tenant Summit on September 19.

And of course, we’ll wrap things up with Birthdays of the Week, Dear Grave Woman featuring Joél Simone, and the Later Life Lowdown.

This week’s reminder:

You don’t have to completely reinvent your life to improve it. Sometimes a small adjustment in direction can change where you eventually arrive.

I hope you’ll join us.
