Therapeutic Health Services

Therapeutic Health Services Washington’s leading nonprofit for addiction recovery and mental health care.

Compassionate, affordable treatment—including medication-assisted recovery for opioid use. Therapeutic Health Services (THS) operates on the belief that chemical dependency and mental illness are chronic, progressive diseases that respond to appropriate intervention, treatment, and prevention. By effectively employing all three, individuals and families are better able to lead healthy and producti

ve lives in their communities. At THS, we believe in treatment that addresses the whole person and every aspect of their life. Our approach includes mental health and family services, plus a wide range of chemical dependency treatments such as methadone and counseling. Years of working with the diverse community of Puget Sound have taught our staff the value of providing culturally relevant services that align with each individual’s needs. Our Mission: Fostering Healing & Recovery
Our clients in recovery and those managing their mental illness need more than counseling and medication treatments to function at their greatest capacity. That’s why we offer a complete range of supplemental services, including language and cultural expertise, family and community support, and vocational services. Our Vision: Improved Quality of Life for All
Each year, more people die or become disabled from substance abuse and severe mental illness than from any other preventable cause. In fact, one in four deaths in our country is the result of alcohol, drug, or tobacco abuse. You can imagine the enormous burden this places on everything from family life and public safety to health care. By helping our neighbors overcome alcohol and drug addiction, we help strengthen our entire community.

Being a parent is hard. Getting well is hard too. Doing both at the same time can feel impossible.

At THS, our Pregnant & Parenting Program helps with both. We know parents in recovery are carrying two things at once: taking care of themselves, and taking care of their kids.

That means counseling, parenting skills support, and recovery groups built for parents like you. Our goal isn’t just to help you stop using. It’s to help you build the life you want for you and your family.

You don’t have to choose between your recovery and your children. At THS, you get support for both.

“Does my insurance cover this?” is one of the most common questions we hear, and often the biggest thing standing between someone and getting help.

Here’s what coverage can look like at THS:

Medicaid and Apple Health are accepted for the full range of our services. We also accept most major private insurance plans, including Blue Cross, Premera, Kaiser, and Aetna, among others.

If you don’t have insurance, our sliding fee scale adjusts your cost based on income, so treatment stays within reach no matter where you’re starting from.

The best way to know exactly what your coverage looks like is to call. Our team will walk you through your options before you commit to anything.

Layne Staley had one of the most unmistakable voices in rock. As the frontman of Alice in Chains, his raw honesty about his own struggles with addiction became part of what made his music resonate so deeply. In 2002, at the age of 34, that same addiction took his life.

This Saturday, August 22, would have been his 59th birthday. Rather than let that day pass in silence, Seattle will mark it with thunderous sound as Jar of Flies takes The Showbox to perform the songs of Alice in Chains and Mad Season, joined by special guests from around the Seattle music community.

Every dollar raised for this show goes towards the Layne Staley Memorial Fund, which THS has managed since 2002 to provide treatment, education, and hope for people facing the same addiction that took Layne’s life way too early.

Layne’s voice still moves people today. Amplify it with us, and grab your tickets now.

Scott was 15 the first time he used he**in. What followed was decades of chasing something that kept slipping further out of reach.

It took an overdose, and a stay at Harborview Medical Center, before everything changed.

That’s when he found THS.

Medication-assisted treatment with methadone, paired with real counseling, gave Scott something he’d never had before: a way forward that actually held. Today, he’s sober. He’s married to a wife who’s also in recovery, and he’s held a steady job with the City of Seattle for years. His life now looks nothing like the one he thought was possible at his lowest point.

Scott’s story is proof that it’s never too late to find your way back.

Watch Scott tell his own story in his own words at the link below.

Too many people put off starting recovery because they're worried about cost.

At THS, we never turn someone away because of their inability to pay. We accept Medicaid/Apple Health and offer a sliding fee scale based on income, along with most private insurance plans.

We've been providing substance use and mental health treatment across King and Snohomish Counties since 1972, growing to 10 locations spread across the region. Whatever's keeping you or someone you love from reaching out, we want to help you find a way past it.

If you've been putting off care because of cost, call us. We'll walk you through what coverage or assistance you might qualify for, no judgment involved.

This month, we mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a law that transformed access, inclusion, and dignity for millions of Americans with disabilities.

At THS, our commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed care means working to ensure our services, spaces, and communication are genuinely accessible to every patient who walks through our doors. We know accessibility isn’t a single achievement. It’s an ongoing responsibility we take seriously, all year.

This Disability Pride Month, we’re grateful for the advocates who fought for the ADA, and recommitted to the work still ahead.

Getting help doesn’t mean putting your life on hold.

THS’s outpatient substance use treatment is built for flexibility. There’s no residential stay required, and you don’t need a referral from a doctor to get started. Treatment includes individual counseling, group therapy, and, for those who need more structure, an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) option, all scheduled around your work, school, or family responsibilities.

Our team treats a full range of substance use, including alcohol, stimulants, opioids, and co-occurring mental health conditions. During your first visit, we’ll help figure out the right level of care for where you are right now.

Ready to get started? Call or fill out our Get Help form, no referral necessary.

Access to psychiatric care shouldn’t be the hardest part of getting help.

THS psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners are now accepting new patients, and no referral is needed to get started. Our team provides comprehensive evaluations and ongoing medication management for conditions like anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and PTSD, tracking your response and adjusting your plan over time.

What makes care at THS different is our collaborative approach: psychiatry, mental health counseling, and substance use treatment are all offered under one roof, so your providers can coordinate around your whole health, not just one diagnosis.

Appointments are available in-person and via telehealth across King and Snohomish Counties. Contact us to learn more about accepted insurance and sliding-scale options.

Recovery doesn’t have to happen alone. 💜

At THS, our Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Outpatient (OP) support groups give patients a space to connect with others walking the same path, backed by professional guidance and proven recovery tools.

IOP Groups offer a more intensive level of support for those who need structured care several days a week.

OP Groups offer ongoing support for individuals who need continued care or are stepping down from IOP or another higher level of treatment.

Both are offered at multiple THS locations, in person and virtually, with schedules varying by branch.

These groups are open only to current THS patients, and admission requires a referral from your counselor. If you’re already in treatment with us, talk to your counselor for group days and times at your location.

If you’re not yet a patient and think group support could be part of your recovery, our team can help you get started.
