On Thursday, August 27, from 12:00-1:00 pm, we're happy to host the webinar “Historic Preservation Easements 101.” Our Preservation Programs Director Moira Nadal will lead a presentation about historic preservation easements, including what buildings are good candidates for easement protections, what types of benefits easements can offer, and how to begin the process of having an easement recorded for your property. We’ll also discuss how a preservation easement can be part of an overall financing strategy for a historic renovation project.

Calling all undergraduate and graduate students looking for an exciting opportunity! Our friends at the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust are looking for an Interpretation Intern: an enthusiastic storyteller who can help preserve the history of the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area.⁠ The Interpretation Internship is a part-time, paid role, where interns can grow their skills while preserving history and crafting inspiring content for print and digital platforms that celebrate diverse communities and regions.⁠

Candidates should demonstrate experience and/or interest in: interpretive storytelling and content development⁠; research and documentation, synthesizing complex information, and capturing oral histories or cultural narratives; and organizing and managing cultural or historical materials, such as databases, photo collections, curated archives, or historic documents.⁠ ⁠Priority consideration will be given to applications received by August 23.⁠ Learn more online:

This summer, we’re happy to offer two new lunch-and-learn educational webinars, made possible thanks to the support of the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation!

Next, join us on Thursday, September 24, from 12:00-1:00 pm, for “Climate Pledge Arena: A Federal Historic Tax Credit Case Study,” with guest Climate Pledge Arena Senior Vice President of Finance Eric Jaeger. We’ll look at federal Historic Tax Credits, which can offer substantial tax breaks to developers and property owners looking to rehabilitate historic buildings, using as our case study Washington’s biggest federal Historic Tax Credit project to date: Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
