Do you know about Seattle's connection to le***an rights history?

In 1950, Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon met while working for the same magazine right here in Seattle. Five years later, they helped found the Daughters of Bilitis in San Francisco, the first le***an rights organization in the United States.

This International Le***an Day, during LGBTQ+ History Month, we’re celebrating the people who helped make more room for le***an visibility, community, and love, and everyone carrying that work forward today.

💜 International Le***an Day — Oct. 8
Celebrating le***an identity, the contributions le***ans make to LGBTQ+ communities, and the people creating space for others to feel seen. Here’s to le***an joy, every day of the year!

🌈LGBTQ+ History Month: Seattle's first Pride. Seattle’s first Gay Pride Week in 1974 included a picnic and street dance in Occidental Square, organized by activist David Neth with an attendance of 200 people.

🏳️‍🌈 National Coming Out Day — Oct. 11
Coming out is different for everyone. You decide when you’re ready and who you want to tell—there’s no deadline, and you don’t owe anyone an explanation.

🎲 Calling all adventurers, spellcasters, chaotic-good troublemakers, and curious first-timers!

Q***r Youth D&D is back Saturday, October 17, from 12:00 PM to 3 PM. LGBTQ+ youth ages 14–24 are invited to grab some dice, join the party, and set off on a legendary adventure. No experience needed; we’ll help you learn as you play!

This World AIDS Day, we’re coming together through film.

On Tuesday, December 1, the Seattle LGBTQ+ Center and Northwest Film Forum will host a free community screening. We'll announce the film selection and screening time soon, but you can reserve your free ticket now!

The event will serve as a space to remember those we’ve lost, honor people living with HIV, and reflect together.

🏳️‍🌈 It’s LGBTQ+ History Month, and we’re starting with Seattle.

Q***r and trans people have been building community here for generations. In 1978, Seattle voters defended protections against discrimination. A year later, the Ingersoll Gender Center was founded.

Follow us this month as we share more of the people and moments that brought us here.

Sept. 27 is National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a chance to talk openly about testing and the tools that can help you take care of your health.

In 2025, Washington State reported 445 new HIV cases, up from 360 in 2020. King County accounted for 184 of those cases, accounting for 41% of all new cases reported statewide, including gay, bi, MSM (men who have s*x with men), and people who inject drugs.

Knowing your status is an important part of taking charge of your s*xual health. Here at the Center, we offer free and confidential HIV/STI testing and PrEP navigation, so you can get information and support that fit your needs.

This Bi Visibility Day, we’re celebrating bi+ people as they are, not only when their identities are easy for others to understand, explain, or fit into a box.

Bi+ people deserve to be seen, respected, and affirmed in every part of their lives without making assumptions about who someone dates, how they identify, or what their relationships look like.

The Seattle Pan Bi Alliance is an all-gender social group for those who identify as bis*xual, pans*xual, heteroflexible, and more. Learn more about their monthly events at meetup.com/seattle-pan-bi-alliance, or plan to join them Sept. 23 at 5:00 PM at Stoup Brewing on Capitol Hill.
