Last week to APPLY!🌈✨ The Sisters are giving!

The 2026 Charity Granting Cycle is OPEN. Every July, the Abbey of St. Joan blesses Washington state 501(c)(3) organizations with grants for programs that strengthen our LGBTQIA+ community (three decades of it, and counting).

Are you...

🌈 A BIPOC organization spreading joy and extending education during your Pride Asia festival?
🌈 A court of glittered and sequined drag queens and courtiers making sure your events have ASL interpretation?
🌈 Kinky bootblacks looking to share your skills during a weekend retreat in the woods? (oh my 👀)
🌈 Educating Q***r younger folks about the issues affecting their lives?

We want to hear from you.

✨ Apply by June 15th, 2026
✨ WA-state 501(c)(3)s only (501(c)3 fiscal sponsored projects or projects serving WA state sponsored by out-of-state 501(c)3 are welcome!)

This early evening, after a general monthly meeting we gathered on the plaza of The AMP: AIDS Memorial Pathway (above Capitol Hill station) to gather, reflect and run a light ritual in recognition of 45 years since the first reports of HIV/AIDS in the country by the CDC. a few of us in face, a few not but yet the impact on us and our community is ever lasting. And a further reminder

06/05/2026

Forty-five years ago today, on June 5, 1981, the CDC published a brief report in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) describing five cases of a rare pneumonia among young gay men in Los Angeles.

Those few paragraphs marked the beginning of the AIDS epidemic.

What followed was not only a public health crisis, but a crisis of neglect, stigma, and political indifference. The progress we celebrate today did not happen on its own. It was won by people living with HIV, activists, researchers, caregivers, and communities who demanded action when too many leaders remained silent.

As we mark 45 years since the first recognized AIDS cases, we encourage everyone to take a moment to read the original MMWR report, reflect on the lives lost and the movements built in response, and recommit ourselves to the work that remains.

Tonight, join us and our partners for the 7 Days in June vigil as we honor those we've lost, celebrate those who continue to fight, and remember why activism, science, and community still matter.

And if you're able, please support TAG and the many organizations working every day to advance HIV research, protect public health, and ensure that scientific progress reaches everyone who needs it.

The history of HIV is not over. The future is being written right now.

COME OUT THIS THURSDAY for some drag and some leather!

Let's be clear: as the drag nuns who have been shimmying and squeezing between hordes of leatherfolk and connecting our communities for DECADES, we are the epitome of drag working *in* leather.💅🏳️‍🌈

With at least 2 Washington State Mr. Leathers, a SML Daddy, a couple of Washington State Bootblacks, and a member of the IML organizing committee still within our membership (!), the Abbey was dismayed to see👀 the "haterz" come out for Honey Davenport winning International Mr. Leather. (Rude, we know!)

We are thrilled for our friends. The current Washington State Mx. Leather 2026, Emerald ONYX, and HMISM JJ "Metro" Surreal-Starr lead with SML Daddy's Boy 2026 Roscoe Buff in hosting a leather-filled drag show.

Thursday, June 4th at 6pm | AIDS Memorial Pathway Plaza (right next to the Capitol Hill Light Rail station)!

For thirty years, the the Abbey of St. Joan have gathered on the shores of Lake Washington, in and out-of-face. For community, for the radical joy of being free in our q***r bodies and for our radical selves.

Today, the Abbey designates Denny Blaine Park as a Holy Ground and entrusts that designation to the steadfast stewards of Friends of Denny Blaine ( https://fodb.org/ )

Denny Blaine has always been a n**e beach. It has always been a q***r space. The city knows it. The community lived it. And when it mattered most, the city cow-towed to mega-mansions.

Denny Blaine belongs to us. It always has. 🌊☀️🏳️‍🌈
