✨ THREE EVENTS. THREE VERY DIFFERENT WAYS TO SPEND YOUR WEEK. ✨

We’ve got a full week of stories, music, and conversation happening at Hugo House. Come join us! 📚🎶🎤
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 | 6:30–8:30 PM
📖 Long Story Short
Celebrate the very first issue of Long Story Short! Writers were given just four hours to handwrite and submit their pieces—and now they’re bringing those words to life on the Theatre Lobby stage.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 | 6–9 PM
🎸 Open Mic for Musicians
Our music-forward open mic is back! Original work only—no covers.
Musicians, writers, and hybrid performers are invited to share their work and connect with one another in a space built for original voices.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 | 7–9 PM
📚 Seattle Reads Presents: Sara Nović with Ross Showalter
Join us for an evening with author Sara Nović, whose novel True Biz is the Seattle Reads 2026 selection. Nović will appear in conversation with Ross Showalter for an evening of literature, conversation, and community.

Three nights. Three ways to experience the literary arts.

Which one will we see you at? 👀

Book Lab 2026 applications close soon!

You finished your book draft. You may even have revised, reworked, and wrestled with it more than once. You’ve taken your manuscript as far as you can on your own. Now you’re staring at it wondering:
Is this ready? What’s next?

Book Lab is Hugo House's nine-month manuscript incubator, designed to help writers transform a completed or almost completed draft into a manuscript that’s ready to submit for publication or agent consideration.

Through mentorship from award-winning and bestselling authors, individualized feedback, and a supportive cohort of fellow writers, you'll strengthen your manuscript, refine your vision, and prepare your work for submission.

You’ll get:
✨ A full editorial read of your manuscript read by your mentor with notes
✨ Monthly cohort meetings to workshop and exchange feedback
✨ Four one-on-one meetings with your mentor to discuss your project
✨ Craft and industry talks from published authors and agents
✨ Professional preparation, including pitch practice
✨ Dedicated writing time and space to sustain momentum
✨ A draft of your query letter
✨ A personalized submission strategy
✨ An actionable roadmap for next steps
✨ An end of year cohort reading to celebrate
✨ And more!

📍 In-Person with Tara Conklin starts Sept 22
💻 Online with Sonora Jha starts Sept 23
🗓️ Applications open August 1

Book Lab is $6800 total. Payment plans are available.

Prose writers of all genres and backgrounds are welcome.
