✨May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month✨
This month, we celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, while recognizing the role food, nutrition, and cultural traditions play in health, identity, and community. Within nutrition and dietetics, honoring AAPI voices and lived experiences supports culturally responsive, respectful, and equitable care.

Culturally inclusive nutrition practice includes valuing traditional foods, understanding diverse foodways, and addressing stereotypes that contribute to health inequities. Learning from AAPI leaders, research, and community-driven resources helps nutrition professionals support culturally meaningful eating patterns and improved health outcomes across populations.

🤝 Resources for learning and inclusive practice
• ACEND Blog: Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
• Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Member Interest Group (MIG)
• Follow AAPI MIG on Instagram
• Cultural Foods

Let’s continue to uplift AAPI voices and strengthen a nutrition profession rooted in respect, equity, and cultural humility. 🌸

✨ April is World Autism Month ✨
This month, we recognize and celebrate neurodiversity while highlighting the important role nutrition professionals play in providing inclusive, compassionate, and individualized care for autistic individuals and their families.

Nutrition care for individuals with autism often includes navigating sensory preferences, food selectivity, routines, and environmental factors. Evidence-informed, sensory-friendly eating strategies and family-centered approaches can support nourishment, growth, and positive relationships with food, without pressure or judgment.

🤝 Resources for learning and inclusive practice
• Disabilities in Nutrition and Dietetics DPG
• Academy resources on nutrition for children with ASD
• Research highlighting food, nutrition, and autism across the food system
• Special needs nutrition materials from the NEP DPG
• American Academy of Pediatrics family toolkit on nutrition and eating challenges

Let’s continue learning, listening, and creating a nutrition profession that values inclusion and respects lived experience. 💙
