UW Students are digging into local history, as reported in The Seattle Times! UW Department of Architecture has offered a course called "City Erased," in which students have been mapping the Seattle neighborhoods that were wiped out when Interstate 5 was built in the early 1960s. The classes have used historic photos, old maps and city records to create 3-D models of the buildings, which are on display in Gould Hall through May 29. More details at the links in our comments!

In 2014, Tamiko Nimura, ’00, ’04, boarded a bus to Tule Lake — the site of the largest concentration camp for Japanese Americans during World War II — in search of a place that had shaped her family’s history. It was where her father was imprisoned from age 10 to 14. Her experience forms the core of her new memoir, out now from University of Washington Press.
