Ada's technical books on Capitol Hill is closing. It is named for Ada Lovelace, Lord Byron's daughter, who was a math wiz and one of the earliest "coders". Sad to see such a unique independent bookstore closing.

As we near Ada’s final chapter, we’ve been reflecting on all the moments that made this place so special 🤍 We would not be who we are without all the people who walked through our doors and shaped this community!

We’d love to hear your favorite Ada's memory - a book, a conversation, a feeling, a person - share it with us in the comments! 📚

Taha Ebrahimi was our featured speaker last month. Maybe The Woman's Century Club members should sign up as a group for one of these tours! They sound fascinating! Let's discuss this Friday at our May Breakfast event. Not a member? Check out our website... www.womanscenturyclub.org

Congratulations to local journalism legend Lori Matsukawa on publishing her memoir "Being There: Memoir of an Asian American Journalist (Chin Music Press)." The book traces her journey from her upbringing in rural Hawaii to her long career as an award winning broadcast journalist. She especially focuses on the role she's played in helping mentor and advocate for representation in her field of journalists of color. This piece from Cascade PBS has a short interview with Lori.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone who is a mother or has/had a mother. And a special thank you to those unsung humans (and whales) who provide love and mothering to other people's kids.

We usually do a land acknowledgement at the start of The Woman's Century Club meetings and say we are on the ancestral land of the Duwamish people. It's up to each of us to educate ourselves about the history of how the Duwamish have struggled for recognition and to find ways to support them. A good first step is to watch the video they've produced. Link below in the post from Duwamish Longhouse .

The short documentary, We Are Still Here, sheds light on the Duwamish Tribe's enduring fight for federal recognition.
Despite being the first people of Seattle and signatories of the
1855 Treaty of Point Elliott, the Duwamish have spent decades battling for the rights promised to them. Directed by Tommie Lorene with support from the University of Arizona Native Pathways Haury Graduate Research Grant, this film
captures the resilience of a tribe that refuses to be erased, showcasing their cultural strength and ongoing activism.
