Thank you to BPM for spending the morning volunteering at the LifeMoves Opportunity Services Center!

The team helped sort donations so that essentials could be distributed more efficiently to clients in need. They also brought extra joy to the day by leading bingo and handing out birthday cupcakes to celebrate residents’ birthdays.

Community care looks like this.

More than 80 California Lions members gathered at Hakone Gardens for the inaugural Women in Lions Symposium, assembling Summer Camp swag bags for LifeMoves children and families.

Each bag included essentials like towels, sunscreen, water bottles, and handwritten notes to help kids enjoy camp this season. Lions members also donated backpacks and toddler shoes to support families experiencing homelessness.

Thank you to the California Lions Foundation for helping LifeMoves families head into summer feeling supported.

PSA: Don’t sleep on student journalism.

In her latest piece, Asa Moran from San Francisco State University's Xpress Magazine captured something so many conversations about homelessness miss: both the devastating gaps in our public systems and the remarkable resilience of the people forced to navigate them.

Too often, we reduce homelessness to headlines or statistics. But behind every number and every policy debate is a person trying to rise above their circumstances — soaring housing costs, food insecurity, mental health challenges, and fallible support systems.

We’re grateful for journalism that humanizes this crisis with compassion, honesty, and dignity; and for every client willing to lend their voice to help others better understand the realities of homelessness.

From clean sheets on the field to clean sheets at LifeMoves. ⚽🛏️

A huge thank you to The Faultline, the independent supporters group of San Jose Earthquakes, for donating over $800 in brand-new bedding through their Clean Sheets for Clean Sheets campaign. In soccer, a "clean sheet” means keeping your opponent from scoring. Off the field, it means helping our neighbors rest, recharge, and take steps toward stability with fresh sheets, pillows, pillowcases, and blankets.

We’re so grateful for this partnership and look forward to another donation later this season!

The ribbon has been cut, the doors are almost ready to open, and the next chapter begins soon.

Homekey Palo Alto is expected to welcome individuals and families at the end of June, offering supportive services, stability, and a pathway toward permanent housing. We’re excited for what’s ahead.

“Housing insecurity remains one of the most urgent challenges facing Silicon Valley, and projects like HomeKey Palo Alto show what's possible when public and private partners rally around real solutions.” - John A. Sobrato.

HomeKey Palo Alto is a strong example of what coordinated regional investment can achieve, bringing together State Homekey funding alongside contributions from the Palo Alto Community Fund, The Peery Foundation, Sobrato Philanthropies, the County of Santa Clara, the City of Palo Alto, and LifeMoves.

"This project reflects what is possible when local governments, nonprofits, philanthropic organizations and the community work together toward real housing solutions," said Vicki Veenker, Palo Alto mayor.

Homekey Palo Alto reflects broader regional efforts to expand interim and supportive housing options throughout Santa Clara County and the Bay Area.
