🎃 Help make Halloween spook-tacular at LifeMoves!

This October, we're inviting our community to help create a season filled with fun, creativity, and connection for children, families, and adults at LifeMoves.

There are lots of ways to join the Halloween fun:

For many older adults experiencing homelessness, there was a home before there wasn't.

There were years spent working. Raising families. Paying bills. Building relationships and becoming part of a community.

Then something changed.

A job was lost. Rent became unaffordable. A partner passed away. Health needs grew. A fixed income could no longer keep pace with the cost of housing.

And homelessness came later in life.

Research from the UCSF Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative found that 41% of older adults experiencing homelessness in California first became homeless after age 50.

Nearly half of single adults experiencing homelessness in the state are now age 50 or older.

Here in our own communities, adults 55+ represent approximately 24% of people experiencing homelessness in Santa Clara County and 26% in San Mateo County.

These numbers tell a story we don't talk about enough: homelessness can happen at any age.

This National Senior Citizens Day, we're shining a light on our older neighbors experiencing homelessness, and the importance of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to age with dignity, stability and a place to call home.

What a great day at 49ers Training Camp! 🏈

Thanks to the San Francisco 49ers, members of our LifeMoves community had the opportunity to experience Training Camp up close, watching practice, taking in all the excitement, and making some great memories along the way.

A huge thank you to the 49ers Community Relations team for inviting LifeMoves to Nonprofit Day and for making everyone feel so welcome.

We’re grateful for community partners who help create moments like these and bring a little extra joy to the people we serve.

Thank you for having us, and go Niners! ❤️💛

Protect the people you love. Leave a legacy that lasts. ❤️

August is National Make-A-Will Month, a reminder that creating or updating your will is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give the people you love.

A will provides peace of mind, protects your family, and ensures your wishes are honored. It can also reflect the values you've lived by throughout your life.

For many supporters, that includes helping ensure that future generations of families have a safe place to call home.

If creating or updating your will has been on your to-do list, there's no better time to get started.

A building can provide shelter. A community provides opportunity.

The newly approved Santa Clara Family Community will offer families experiencing homelessness more than a safe place to stay, it will provide the supportive services that help families rebuild their lives and move toward permanent housing.

At LifeMoves, we know that lasting change happens when interim housing is paired with compassionate case management, employment support, housing navigation, and services designed to meet each family's unique needs. That's how families move beyond homelessness and build lasting stability.

We're grateful to the City of Santa Clara and our community partners for investing not only in a building, but in brighter futures for families across our community. ❤️

No student should have to worry about whether they'll have a backpack on the first day of school. For children and young adults experiencing homelessness, a new backpack is more than a school supply. It's confidence. It's dignity. It's one less thing for a family to worry about.

Thanks to our incredible community, hundreds of students will start the school year prepared.

With your help, we can ensure every student, from kindergarten through college, starts the school year with the tools they need to succeed.

Here's how you can help:

🎒 Elementary & Middle School Students: Donate a new backpack filled with the recommended school supplies.

🎒 High School & College Students (Our greatest remaining need): Donate a new backpack filled with the recommended school supplies or donate a new, empty backpack.

Visit https://na2.hubs.ly/H06F0GK0 to view the recommended supply lists, learn more about the drive, and register your donation by August 5.

Together, we can help every student walk into the classroom with confidence, ready to learn, grow, and dream.

A bed provides shelter. Belonging helps people heal.

Everyone deserves a place where they feel safe, respected, and free to be themselves.

For many LGBTQ+ people experiencing homelessness, finding shelter can come with an added layer of uncertainty. That's why creating spaces where every client feels welcomed, affirmed, and supported is an essential part of the care we provide at LifeMoves.

Recently, KQED highlighted how LifeMoves is expanding LGBTQ+ affirming training across our interim housing communities to help ensure staff are equipped to provide compassionate, trauma-informed care for every client.

As one client shared in the story:

"It's the freedom of knowing that somebody is there to care."

That simple statement reminds us that ending homelessness is about more than providing housing. It's about restoring dignity, building trust, and creating the sense of belonging that helps people move forward. Because everyone deserves a place to call home, and a community where they know they belong.

💙 If this story resonates with you, share it to help spread the message that compassion and belonging change lives.

Despite LGBTQ+ people being overrepresented in the homeless population, shelters geared toward them are few and far between.

Three years ago, LifeMoves opened the Santa Teresa Safe Parking Community with one simple goal: provide a safe place for people living in their vehicles.

But what surprises most people isn't the parking. It's the community.

It's neighbors who encourage one another. Staff who know every client by name. A place where people feel safe, supported, and able to take the first steps toward rebuilding their lives.

Because ending homelessness isn't just about providing a place to sleep. It's about creating a place where hope can grow.

Tomorrow is the final day to have your gift matched, up to $200,000, to help more of our neighbors find safety, stability, and community.

A floor is just a floor until hundreds of meals, conversations, and moments of community happen on it.

Last week, Harrell Design + Build donated its time and expertise to replace the kitchen flooring at our Mountain View interim housing community through a pro bono construction project.

It's the kind of improvement that may seem small, but helps create a safer, more welcoming environment for the individuals and families rebuilding their lives.

Thank you to the entire Harrell team for putting their skills to work for our community.
