SAVE THE DATE! The Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society (SCVWS) invites you to a free watermedia painting demonstration by talented artist John Giannotti at the Prospect Center, Grace Room, 19848 Prospect Rd, Saratoga, CA, on September 6, 2026 from 2:15 - 4:00 PM. John will demonstrate his “Dreamscapes” process. He will share how he creates images solely from his imagination based on memory or feeling without the use of reference materials. John is an award winning artist, instructor and former president of the Los Gatos Art Association (2017-2020).

Many thanks to Robert Semans for serving as the juror for the SCVWS 58th Annual Member Exhibit. Robert grew up in Concord, CA and credits high school art teacher art Marjorie Silva with introducing him to contour drawing and oil painting. Marjorie taught him that “the job of the artist is to distill the essence” of a subject. Robert believes this is a profound truth because it reveals the very heart of the artistic process.
Later, Robert studied in San Jose with Maynard Stewart, a gifted painter influenced by painter Frank Vincent DuMond and in Italy with the well-known teacher Nera Simi, daughter of artist Filadelfo Simi. Robert feels fortunate to have been imbued with the concepts of the Classical Tradition from two separate sources: DuMond and Simi.
Robert works in multiple genres, including formal portraiture, using oil paints, pastel, and various drawing media. To see his exceptional work, visit www.robertsemansfineart.

Join the SCVWS PAINTSITES GROUP every Thursday for a chance to paint outside in selected spots around Santa Clara County and beyond.
Thursday, August 6, 2026 (10am-2pm) - Come join us for plein air painting at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse, 210 Pigeon Point Rd, Pescadero, CA. You have the option to hike to one of several viewing locations about 1/2 to 2 miles south along the coast or sit & sketch on the lighthouse grounds.
