Pride Month is celebrated to coincide with the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, a series of liberation protests that marked the beginning of the movement to outlaw discriminatory laws against LGBTQIA+ people. Mark your calendars and save the date for the San Diego Pride D**e March a bold, community-centered march and celebration kicking off San Diego Pride Week.

The D**e March is a powerful act of visibility, resistance, joy, and solidarity. Returning at a time when LGBTQIA+ communities are facing renewed attacks on our rights, healthcare, and freedom of expression, this event creates space to gather in collective power and unapologetic community.

In this context, “D**e” is not a limiting identity, it is an energy rooted in courage, resistance, and refusal to be erased. The march celebrates q***r women, le****ns, q***r people, Trans and nonbinary people, gender-expansive communities, and everyone who feels aligned with that energy.

Save the date. Bring your people. Take the streets with us.

Dear community,

San Diego Pride is honored to announce the 2026 Spirit of Stonewall Awards, a tribute to the fierce love, relentless mobilization, and unwavering leadership that has fueled our movement for decades.

As anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation and the erasure of trans folks escalate across the country, it is vital to uplift the voices and power of LGBTQIA+ advocates fighting for our very existence. Our theme this year, Pride Shines On, recognizes that amid ongoing attempts to erase and silence us, organizers continue to show up, fight back, and celebrate q***r joy.

Our movement has faced moments like this before, and we remember those who stood boldly in the face of injustice. From the trans women of color who led the Stonewall uprising, to the Blood Sisters who organized, advocated, and cared for their communities throughout the AIDS crisis that began 45 years ago this year, our history reminds us that LGBTQIA+ people have always met fear and oppression with courage, compassion, and collective action.

This year’s awardees reflect the leadership in our community. From grassroots mobilizers and direct service providers to culture-shaping artists and faith leaders, these individuals and organizations remind us that our pride is rooted in love, resistance and unwavering commitment to authenticity.

Over the past year, immigrant rights, trans justice, and many other civil liberties have come under increasing threat, with major legal battles unfolding at the local, state, and federal levels. Actions here in our own communities are shaping outcomes nationwide. For example, Mirabelli v. Olson, filed by Escondido teachers and parents, made its way all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. At the state level, the California Attorney General, alongside parents of transgender youth, have taken various legal actions against Rady Children’s Hospital over its plan to discontinue gender-affirming care for young people.

These cases demand immense investments of time, expertise, and financial resources. They are being fought, and often won, thanks to the unwavering commitment of LGBTQIA+ Civil Rights Defenders: attorneys, legal professionals, and law firms across California and the nation.

This year, we proudly honor those who are defending our rights in the courts, from San Diego to the highest court in the land.

2026 Spirit of Stonewall Honorees:
Champion of Pride: Jackie Han
Community Grand Marshal – LGBTQIA+ Civil Rights:
ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties
Impact Fund
National Center for LGBT Rights
Tom Homann LGBTQ+ Law Association
Transgender Rights Project
Western Center on Law and Poverty
Community Service Award: Joe Fejeran

Inspirational Relationship Award: Dr. Eric Rafla-Yuan & Dr. Sean Kenmore
Stonewall Service Award: Stepping Stone of San Diego
Larry T. Baza Arts & Culture Award: Songwriter Sanctuary San Diego
Light of Pride Award: Santee United Methodist Church
We invite you to join us in celebrating these outstanding honorees at the Spirit of Stonewall Rally — the official kickoff to San Diego Pride weekend that commemorates the Stonewall Riots of 1969, when the LGBTQIA+ community fought back against state-sanctioned police violence and discrimination. Thank you to our 2026 rally partner, The Brass Rail!

Hey Pride Fam,

This year has already reminded us why Pride still matters. At a time when our community is facing attacks on our rights, cuts to arts and culture funding, and growing efforts to divide and silence us, spaces where we can gather in joy, resistance, and community are more important than ever.

And still… Pride shines on.

San Diego Pride Festival returns to Balboa Park on July 18–19, and we’re building something powerful for this year’s celebration. But here’s the important part: festival tickets sales support our year-round education and advocacy efforts including community grants!

Pro-tip: Now is the time to lock in your tickets at the best available price before the next pricing tier begins.

🎟️ Ticket prices increase on June 1.

Don’t wait until prices go up. Plan ahead and save!

We can’t wait to celebrate with you.

05/21/2026

Hey Pride Fam,

We are so excited to officially launch the San Diego Pride Podcast, a new space where our stories meet the moment.

We know Pride is more than a weekend. It’s a living, breathing movement shaped by generations of LGBTQIA+ people who fought to exist openly, cared for one another through crisis, created beauty in the face of oppression, and built community through resistance, joy, and imagination.

The San Diego Pride Podcast is an extension of that work.

This new long-form series will explore the conversations shaping LGBTQIA+ culture, advocacy, identity, creativity, and community care today. These conversations will be grounded in the powerful history that brought us here.

Created in collaboration with Lambda Archives of San Diego, each episode connects contemporary topics to the rich and layered history of q***r life in San Diego and beyond. Because to understand where we’re going, we have to understand where we’ve been.

Our first episode dives into a theme that feels especially meaningful right now: fashion as resistance.

Inspired by Fabric of Pride, San Diego Pride’s inaugural fashion-forward fundraiser, Episode 1 explores the ways LGBTQIA+ communities have historically used fashion not only for celebration and self-expression, but also for survival, visibility, protection, protest, and connection.

Long before mainstream acceptance, q***r people communicated through clothing, style, color, symbols, tailoring, and coded aesthetics to find one another and safely navigate the world around them. Fashion has served as armor. As language. As rebellion. As joy.

At this moment, amid rising anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric, attacks on trans and q***r community, growing censorship, and broader cultural uncertainty impacting historically marginalized communities, reclaiming self-expression becomes deeply political once again.

This conversation is not simply about trends or aesthetics. It’s about the power of being seen.

The episode reflects on how fashion has shaped q***r nightlife, ballroom culture, drag artistry, activism, protest movements, and identity across generations. It also celebrates the creativity and resilience of LGBTQIA+ communities who continue to transform visibility in personal and community power.

The San Diego Pride Podcast will continue to explore topics grounded by:

• Movement & Advocacy: policy, justice, lived realities, and organizing
• History & Archives: preserving and learning from our collective legacy
• Community Conversations: artists, leaders, organizers, and changemakers
• Joy & Culture: celebration, identity, creativity, and q***r expression

While this moment feels heavy, our community has always found ways to create beauty, care for one another, and keep moving forward together.

This podcast is another way we continue that work year-round through Pride 365. We hope you’ll listen, share, and grow with us as we build this new storytelling platform together.

LISTEN NOW

And as always: Pride shines on.

With Pride,

San Diego Pride

San Diego Pride is heartbroken by the tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego that claimed innocent lives and has deeply shaken our broader community. We mourn alongside the victims’ families, loved ones, and the Muslim community during this painful and frightening moment.

There is no place for Islamophobia, hate, or politically motivated violence in our communities. We unequivocally condemn this attack and the rising tide of violent extremism and hatred targeting marginalized communities across the United States.

San Diego Pride’s mission, vision, and Pillars of Justice call us to show up for dignity, and collective liberation. In moments like these, we must resist the forces that seek to divide communities through fear and violence.

We extend our deepest condolences to everyone impacted by today’s tragedy. If you are in need of support our friends at The San Diego LGBT Center can help, thecentersd.org/behavioral-health-services

Show up for San Diego’s creative community. Keep Arts & Culture alive in San Diego.
Join us Monday, May 18
3:30 PM arrival | 4:00 PM Press Conference
Civic Center Plaza, 1200 Third Ave
Stay for the 6 PM City Council Meeting and make your voice heard.

The Mayor’s FY27 May Revision proposes more than $11.8 million in arts funding cuts to address a $118 million deficit. These cuts would eliminate critical Arts & Culture grant funding that San Diego Pride and hundreds of nonprofits rely on.

For San Diego Pride, city funding would drop from nearly $400,000 to zero, while Pride would still be responsible for nearly $200,000 in city-related event expenses. These funds directly support local and BIPOC artists and help sustain San Diego’s creative economy.

San Diego Pride alone generates an estimated $27 million in economic impact annually, yet arts organizations continue to face devastating reductions despite overwhelming public support.
Join us at the next Budget Hearing and urge City Council to protect these vital programs.
Bring a friend. Bring a sign.

Can’t make it? Take 2 minutes to email your City Councilmember and tell them to oppose these cuts. History doesn’t preserve itself, and neither does funding.

05/14/2026

Dear community,

In honor of AANHPI Heritage Month, we celebrate the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities whose culture and history continue to shape our world. This month is especially important for Q***r and Trans folks of Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, and Desi descent.

In a world where hate and bigotry seems prevalent, creating joy, belonging, and community is not just meaningful, but necessary. This is why forming spaces like QTAPI Week is vital. It's not just a symbol of resilience, but QTAPI week creates a collective solidarity by giving a space where LGBTQIA+ APIMEDA folks can connect, celebrate themselves authentically, and build community together.

Being represented and seen matters. It’s important to hold spaces where people feel safe to be themselves and celebrate their culture and identities. AANHPI Heritage Month celebrates the beauty, diversity and contributions of QTAPI voices, stories, work, and experiences. Through art, advocacy, friendship, or culture -- QTAPI individuals continue to make powerful contributions that not only deserve recognition but also deserve to be celebrated.

For this year's AANHPI Heritage month, let us commemorate the intersection of cultural heritage and q***r identities by making q***r voices visible and fostering a space that uplifts QTAPI individuals. Join us on May 30th and May 31st as we continue to amplify those voices and cultural lived experiences, underscored through our Q***r and Trans joy!

San Diego Pride is an LGBTQIA+ arts and culture nonprofit behind the city’s largest single-day civic event and one of the biggest Pride celebrations in the country. Each year, more than 250,000 people gather for Pride weekend to celebrate community through performing arts, visual arts, and creative expression in all its forms.

As the City faces difficult budget decisions, arts and culture are often among the first to be cut, despite their proven impact on economic growth, community connection, and civic pride. The proposed reductions would eliminate nearly $400,000 in funding for San Diego Pride, threatening our ability to sustain the programs and experiences that uplift and support LGBTQ+ communities year-round.
