According to San Diego's "2025 Point-in-Time Count Data," there were 682 Transitional Aged Youth (ages of 18 - 24) experiencing homelessness on the night of the count.
In California, on a single night in January 2024, there were 9,052 unaccompanied youth under age 25 experiencing homelessness — the highest number in any state.

Wear green and help us shine a light on youth homelessness. Join Home Start at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 17, to recognize National Runaway & Homeless Youth Prevention Month.

💙 The next generation of philanthropy is already making an impact! Home Start is incredibly grateful to the six San Diego high school students who participated in Life Science Cares San Diego’s inaugural "Generation Impact" program and recently selected Home Start to receive a $20,000 grant supporting our Behavioral Health Services for children and families.

After weeks of learning about philanthropy, researching local nonprofits, meeting with community leaders, and thoughtful deliberation, these inspiring students chose to invest in Home Start’s work helping children heal from trauma and strengthen their emotional well-being.

To these six young philanthropists: thank you for believing in our mission and demonstrating the difference young people can make in their community!

⚠️ A safety message from San Diego Gas & Electric: Stay informed before a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).

SDG&E is monitoring high fire weather conditions which may initiate a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) where power is proactively turned off to reduce the risk of a wildfire in high-risk areas. The Fire Potential Index (FPI) on Saturday, October 3 – Sunday, October 4 is expected to be extreme in portions of San Diego County.
