Nearly 50,000 people were arrested by ICE last month, the highest monthly total yet. San Diego isn't exempt from what's happening nationally, even when it doesn't make the local news.

Thank you Senator Steve Padilla Catherine Blakespear for your support on The No Taxpayer Dollars for Family Separation Act which would stop California taxpayer dollars from supporting companies tied to detention and family separation. We need our State Senators to support this bill. Email your Senator today and urge them to support AB 2465. Links at the end of video.

We had a generative gathering with leaders from congregations all over San Diego County, with a clear commitment: we are called to build stronger power and doing it together, one conversation and one relationship at a time.

¡AQUÍ NO! San Diego County facilities should serve our communities, not ICE and CBP. Today, we gathered with community members, faith leaders, organizers, and families for a press conference alongside Supervisors Supervisor Paloma Aguirre and Terra Lawson-Remer to say ¡Aquí No! to ICE and CBP’s use of County facilities for fi****ms training. Family is sacred; no parent should have to fear separation from their children just for going to work, school, or the grocery store. San Diego County families deserve to feel safe in their own communities, not intimidated by federal immigration enforcement using public resources against them. That’s why we stand in full support of Item 24, which would end these agreements and permanently bar ICE and CBP from training at County facilities.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 8/18 at 10 AM: Make your voice heard at the Board of Supervisors meeting and support Item 24. Speak in person, call in, or submit written public comment.

We are proud to stand alongside Supervisor Paloma Aguirre Terra Lawson-Remer in full support of their effort to end ICE and CBPs use of County facilities for fi****ms training.

San Diego County families deserve to feel safe in their own communities, not intimidated by federal immigration enforcement using public resources against them. That’s why we’re backing Item 24, which would end these agreements for good.

Gabriel es un buen ejemplo de lo que significa ser un líder, es alguien que se presenta una y otra vez por su comunidad, con el corazón y acción. Esta semana fue parte de nuestra reunión con el Senador Steve Padilla, y queremos reconocer su compromiso. En SDOP hemos estado trabajando de cerca con líderes de distintas congregaciones construyendo relaciones, organizando, y apareciendo juntos por lo que creemos.
Todavía estamos reflexionando y procesando lo que fue esta reunión con el Senador Padilla, lo que este momento nos está pidiendo, y lo que nuestra fe nos exige hacer. Y este momento no puede esperar:

Gabriel is a great example of what it means to lead: someone who shows up for his community, with heart and action. Last week he was part of our meeting with Senator Steve Padilla, and we want to recognize his commitment. At SDOP, we've been working closely with leaders from different congregations, building relationships, organizing, and showing up together for what we believe in. We're still reflecting and processing what that meeting with Senator Padilla meant, what this moment is demanding of us, and what our faith is asking of us. We had a conversation with Senator Steve Padilla and it was insightful as he walked us through the specifics of AB 2465. We felt honored to meet face to face with one of the bill’s coauthors.

Thank you Steve Padilla for meeting with us Friday! And thank you to Our Lady of Guadalupe for hosting this forum with leaders from different congregations — we were joined by parishioners from Our Lady of Guadalupe and Christ the King Catholic Church. We left excited and hopeful for his support in getting this bill passed, and looking forward to continuing to build this relationship.
