Ever stared at your ballot and thought “wait… what does this one actually do?” Same.

Today we hosted our first Ballot Education Forum in partnership with the League of Women Voters of the US First UU Church of San Diego the room was full of neighbors who showed up ready to learn. Ballot Talk is a free, nonpartisan guide to the key measures on this year’s ballot. There were no talking points and no pressure, only clear information so every voter can decide for themselves.

A huge thank you to our core leader, Jessica Ripper, who led the session with so much heart, and to the community organizers who made the space feel like home. It was a warm gathering and the best possible kickoff to our Voting Is Sacred efforts.

What does it mean to say our faith calls us to protect every voice?

Last week, more than 150 Core Leaders and invited guests came together at the Voting Is Sacred Forum for intentional planning and organizing. Together we discerned and built toward action, exploring:

✨ How faith communities are aligning to meet this moment
✨ Our role in supporting voter participation and access
✨ The infrastructure needed to protect voters, the count, and the democratic process
✨ Our shared commitment to protect the seating of newly elected officials

Our leaders are already bringing Voting Is Sacred to life in their congregations and communities.

This is only the beginning. We'll be sharing more events as we move toward Election Day, so stay tuned and stay ready. 💜

¿Qué significa decir que nuestra fe nos llama a proteger cada voz?

La semana pasada, más de 150 líderes principales e invitados se reunieron en el Foro «El Voto Es Sagrado» para planificar y organizar con propósito. Juntos discernimos y nos preparamos para la acción, explorando:

✨ Cómo las comunidades de fe se están alineando para afrontar este momento
✨ Nuestro papel en el apoyo a la participación y el acceso al voto
✨ La infraestructura necesaria para proteger a los votantes, el conteo y el proceso democrático
✨ Nuestro compromiso compartido de proteger la investidura de los funcionarios recién electos

Nuestros líderes ya están llevando el «Voto Es Sagrado» a la práctica en sus congregaciones y comunidades.

This morning, our team was invited by the office of San Diego Councilmember Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera to receive a recognition in honor of Latino Heritage Month, for our advocacy work alongside multi-faith communities across the region.

We accepted it with our core leaders beside us, and that’s where the credit belongs. Our core leaders are the base of our organizing model. They’re rooted in their congregations and neighborhoods, they know their people, and they’re the ones knocking on doors, hosting house meetings, and bringing families to the table when decisions are being made about their lives. Without them, this work doesn’t happen.

To every core leader who has given their evenings, weekends, and voice to this work: this recognition is yours. Thank you to Councilmember Elo-Rivera and his team for lifting up this work and the communities behind it. Adelante. 💛

Today, September 29 Governor Newsom signed AB 1633, establishing a 25% tax on private immigration detention corporations. AB 2465, which would restrict certain state benefits for businesses involved in immigration enforcement, is still awaiting his decision.

Tomorrow, September 30, is the deadline for the Governor to act on bills.

San Diego, you showed up. 💛 Volunteers, elected officials, congregations from across the county, people of every faith and of no faith: thank you for speaking up, walking alongside our immigrant neighbors, and reminding us that every person deserves dignity, no matter where they’re from or what papers they hold.
