Tantrums & Tiaras

Tantrums & Tiaras Tantrums & Tiaras is back on Sunday, February 16, 2020! This fun, campy drag pageant at The Observatory North Park will benefit The San Diego LGBT Center!

Started in 2009, this event is a spoof on the Miss America Pageant, with many of the community’s bars sending a contestant from their staff – with little or no drag experience – to compete for the crown. The first Tantrums and Tiaras event was sold out, with community members coming together to see their favorite bar staff compete, and the 2017 event is expected to be the same. This event will be

nothing like a “traditional drag show” – instead, it will be pageant style and all of the contestants will have very little experience. These “non-performing queens” will try their best to strut around the stage in stilettos, trying not to fall over. The show is a full-scale stage production and audience members will be wowed by what is in store for them. In its first year, contestants surprised the audience with a live donkey, roller skates and flying effects on stage. The event being organized in partnership between Mo’s Universe (proprietor of Urban Mo’s, Baja Betty’s, Gossip Grill and Hillcrest Brewing Company) and The Center, an organization which provided over 61,000 services visits to the LGBT and HIV+ community members last year. Mo’s Universe is a longtime supporter of The Center, and regularly gives back to the organization.
