Art Produce

Art Produce Art Produce is a laboratory in building community and developing creative social space.

Our mission is to build community and foster civic engagement through arts, education and public culture. Art Produce is an activist business enterprise and community cultural center that connects artists, cultural organizations, schools, urban farmers and local businesses with public institutions and public culture. Art Produce Gallery is a unique artist run storefront exhibition space and public

art experience in North Park, a diverse and historic urban community of San Diego. The gallery is entirely visible from the sidewalk and was designed to accommodate sculptural installations, cross-disciplinary works, digital media, and performance events. The space allows for unconventional presentation opportunities for artists and unexpected art encounters for viewers. Intended to enliven the experience of the pedestrian it is an experiment in public art that is accessible to everyone in the community - an attempt to render visibility and transparency into the art process itself. Originally built as a market, Art Produce now houses the storefront gallery, an edible urban garden, resident artists studios, and Stone Paper Scissors. The Garden is utilized for public meetings, classes and workshops, film screenings and performance events.

Mayor Gloria and City Council representatives,
We implore you to continue funding Arts & Culture in San Diego. What kind of city would San Diego be without the arts? What will happen to our small arts organizations, our after school arts programs, our performers, and cultural creators if future funding disappears. There are cultural workers in every neighborhood contributing to the local economy and helping make this a beautiful, healthy, vibrant city.
It is short sighted and dehumanizing to eliminate an entire sector of support. This feels like DOGE SD! Is this what you want as your legacy to San Diego?
Please consider how this affects the lives of all of your constituents, our region and our reputation as a cultural destination and “Finest City”.
We implore you not to cut Arts & Culture funding.

Emerging from a moment of heightened political and social tension, the exhibition reflects on a year marked by widespread protest and renewed public resistance to policies that have caused national and global instability.

This is the third exhibit in Space 4 Art's year-long residency at Art Produce - part of a series of seven exhibitions that will spotlight the bold, innovative spirit of San Diego's contemporary art scene.

Acknowledgement of the role and value of death as an important part of a cyclical and natural continuum is common in many cultural traditions around the world. The photographs in this exhibition are from two different series yet find confluence in their iconography, cultural practices, and as acts of resistance.

Irén Tété

"Born in Bulgaria during the fall of communism, I carry the dissonance of collapsed systems, ancestral beliefs, unfinished houses, and fractured time. My work draws from proto-Bulgarian pagan cosmology, the unbuilt cinderblock homes of my childhood, and rituals connecting us to lineage and place."
