Americans of every background organize politically around the issues that matter to them.

Jewish Americans hold that same right and should not be demonized and singled out for doing so.

What a sweet way to get ready for the Jewish New Year!🍎

Thank you to everyone who joined us Sunday for our Rosh Hashanah Block Party, featuring the Shofar Factory. We learned how a shofar is made, got an up-close look at live bees with a local beekeeper, enjoyed hands-on activities, tasty bites, shopping, and plenty of time with friends, family, and community.

What an honor to welcome Eli Sharabi to the J.

With every seat in the David & Dorothea Garfield Theatre filled, our community came together to listen, bear witness, and hear Eli share his story of survival, resilience, and hope.

The evening also brought a deeply personal moment as Eli visited the Gotthelf Art Gallery, where he saw a photograph of his niece featured in "Facing the Sea" by Daniel Tchetchik, an exhibition sharing portraits of people directly affected by October 7.

We also extend our gratitude to the Chortek Weisman family for making this important evening possible. Their support gave our community the opportunity to gather, hear Eli’s story firsthand, and share this moment together.

Most of all, we thank Eli for sharing his story with us and for reminding us that even through unimaginable darkness, we can continue to choose hope.

For longtime LFJCC supporter Ron Mandelbaum, philanthropy is deeply connected to creating something meaningful that can continue for generations. For Ron, that legacy began with his late wife, Mercy.

When Ron and Mercy lived in Coronado, Mercy saw that Jewish cultural programming wasn’t easily accessible and was determined to create opportunities for people to learn, engage, and experience Jewish ideas right where they lived. That vision became the Mandelbaum Family Lecture Series.

Ron has continued supporting the series since Mercy’s passing, keeping her vision alive as it continues to reach audiences throughout the community.
