HomeAid San Diego had the incredible opportunity to take WORKS Cohort 13 students on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Mission Valley Mall Renovation Project, thanks to our partners at LOWE and Whiting-Turner.
During the visit, students met with industry professionals, received a project overview, and toured active construction areas throughout the site. The experience provided valuable insight into the planning, coordination, and teamwork required to successfully complete large-scale commercial construction projects.
Students learned firsthand that construction is truly a collaborative effort, with multiple trades, contractors, and stakeholders working together to bring a vision to life.
A special thank you to HomeAid San Diego Board Member Erik Flores of LOWE for helping make this opportunity possible and for sharing his expertise with our students. We would also like to thank Whiting-Turner, Shane Willingham, and Devin Merker for hosting the tour, walking students through the construction process, and providing valuable industry knowledge and career insight.
Experiences like these help connect classroom learning to real-world applications and inspire the next generation of construction professionals.
