Courage to Hope Courage to Hope is a nonprofit organization that supports the fight against domestic violence in Ukraine.

We formed Courage to Hope after many of us spent an extensive amount of time in Eastern Europe. While there, it became very apparent very quickly that domestic violence was not only strongly prevalent but rather a cultural norm. We came together upon the idea that everyone deserves a chance to improve their situation if they want to. We were young and did not have the means to support a shelter on our own, but we realized that we didn’t need to be elderly and wealthy to make a difference for these battered victims of domestic violence. With dedication, we could change lives NOW, and that was significant. So we started putting on events and raising money and awareness, and were able to support a shelter in Kiev, Ukraine and its implementation of successful programs. We now work to maintain lasting support and expand our efforts.

While we work with local shelters in organizing volunteer efforts, our main purpose is to support shelters in Ukraine to provide meaningful and lasting support to victims of domestic violence. With an unpaid staff and direct relationships on both ends, your donations go directly to the source. Help us lift the hands that hang down, to provide victims of domestic violence with the courage to hope– hope for a better life.

Combatting domestic violence in Ukraine? We know it sounds far-fetched to some. Ukraine is far and facing a civil war. It is not like Africa where international aid is often implemented without question. So why help? Because domestic violence is a deeply rooted problem in Ukraine despite these obstacles. It is three times as prevalent as it is in the US, with six times as many deaths per capita a year. It is ingrained as a cultural norm. There are only four shelters in the entire country, with the largest having only $90k per year to support the shelter, classes, legal fees, food, and staff. Courage to Hope helps Ukrainians help Ukrainians. Our dedicated team provides the support that the government and US AID have neglected or failed to provide. We don’t go from the top down or the bottom up, but rather work directly with the women and children in a shelter to develop and direct as well as participate in programs such as art therapy and job training. Help us make these programs more accessible to more people.
